I stayed a week and a bit at the Coralia in one of their basic bungalows, and then a week and a half in the Hilton.

The Coralia seems to have a range of accommodation options, but the one I was in had no TV, so it was like sensory deprivation for me. It came to be that the call-to-prayer at some silly time in the morning was my only 'entertainment' for the day apart from sailing.

The Hilton has cable TV, so I spent the first few days getting my fix of that before I was back to normal.

Food was better in the Hilton than the Coralia, but both pretty good. Either way, I think I had lunch almost every day at the Pizza bar near Harry Nass. You can also eat in town as there are heaps of places to eat although I was concerned about my stomach so I never ate there.

If you want to eat/drink on the cheap you can smuggle food/drink into the hotel rooms. Just don't let the guards see it

Where you stay may depend on if you have a female companion with you. The two star place looks okay. As long as its clean and safe it doesn't really matter that much. You will probably be stuffed after windsurfing all day in the hot sun.

How much does it cost to get there from Australia?

This is actual map of Dahab. Could somebody tell where windsurfing spot and gear hire is? at the top? middle or bottom?

The map below shows the prevailing wind, hotels/gear hire and sailing spots. "Speedy" and "Baby Bay" are the places to sail for flat water, "Kamikaze" for rolling swell.

The place identified as "Dahab" in your Google map is actually the village of Mashraba. Lots of touristy kitch there, and, yes, the touts are attentive (moderate understatement).

I agree Lake Garda is no good in October. September can be good though. Best June-Sept.

Dahab looks like it has changed a bit. I was there 18 years ago and it was just a slummy little place full of dope smokin backpackers.

Since two hundred saving is not worth to risk complete holiday disaster Dahab Plaza is out.
Now only Corelia vs Hilton remains.
I just received email from Hilton regarding internet access:
"It is my pleasure to assist you with your request about the internet availability in the hotel and the cost. The internet is available in all the rooms through cable connection and the public areas of the hotel through WIFI with the following cost, 35LE for 30 MIN, 50 LE for 01 HR, 120 LE for 01 Day and 350 LE for 01 Week."
since I am internet addict that could live without TV cable for a week or two now
I am a bit towards Corelia
Suprasingly accommodation cost are exactly the same at the moment for a week stay with Coralia even a mere $50 more expensive then Hilton.
If I were Worlds Hotel Censor I will took that fifth star of Hilton immediately.
Luxury ! without free internet is like paying for toilet in underdeveloped states !
Think about that . Night at Plaza Hotel cost $25 per person and internet is free.
At Hilton I will be paying $140 per bed and extra $10 per internet hour - for me $80 a day !!!
AnywayIf I had to travel from Australia will be around $3000 cost for a week at Dahab + flights
since in Europe already it will cost me only $1000 at Hilton - flights including from Berlin or Warsaw
:)

When I stayed at the coralia in June I had an airconditioned room with TV and cable service plus buffet breaky and buffet dinner every day included in the nightly room charge. All I had to pay for was lunch which you can get at any of the restaurants/cafe and can be charged back to your room. As I recall I only had the standard room also....Send them an email and ask about it. I managed to get flights from Melb to Cairo and return for around $1800 on a special with Etihad airways at the time. I bought a flight with Egypt air from Cairo to Sharm, think it was around $100, all up I remember it cost me just under $2K to get to Sharm and back.

I don't think that you still have direct phone numeber to Coralia or email ( ?) I try to negotiate the best deal - and travel agency calculate cost per night for 2 beds - A$71 for first 3 days and then AUD and 119 AUD for next 4
at Coralia.
A$71 x 7 day will be excellent.
Re Free internet access at Coralia there are saying that by bar is free but at rooms level is prepaid.
Can I really have free wireless internet access anywhere there with my laptop ?

What was the wind like there in June? I went in Sept/Oct and it was a bit gusty, kicking in in the morning and then dropping off around 2pm every day. It was supposedly the strongest winds, but I am not sure if they were the most consistent/steady.

Then it's 250€ a week if you want 5 star all inclusive treatement...

Then you also have an option of going to Turkey...they include windsurfing gear in allinclusive packages...similar price for it though...

See here for there contact details and info

Contact the hotel
Tel. (+20)69/3640301
Fax. (+20)69/3640305
h1718@accor.com

I just emailed them and asked them what availability and rates they had available for my dates and dealt direct with them. I did try to call them but everytime I did the line I got to egypt was terrible and couldn't hear the other person so well so I just gave up and emailed them. I found they were really helpful for me via email so you shouldn't have a prob getting the info you need out of them.

When I went in June (the last two weeks of june) it was exactly like you described for me FormulaNova. It was windy in the morning and started to drop after lunch. It was a little gusty at times but not too bad. I was able to sail on a 5.0m at least 2 hours in the morning on 12 of the days, then I usually went up a size or two for another couple of hours.

I am just packing last bags for my trip to Europe and try to book some tickets to Egypt. Suddenly I am reading about some stupid visa requirements !!
Do we need visa before we go to Dahab for windsurfing ? !

I don;t want to mention about terrorist attack and kidnapping.
Travel to Egypt could be more exciting this days that windsurfing itself.

Yeah you buy it at the airport when you arrive in Egypt, buy it before you line up for customs, think it was something like $15 or $20 USD when I went....

I got mine from the Egyptian embassy. If I had known you could get it from the airport I could have saved a bit of time!

I think I even dropped it off personally just to make sure it came back in time for the trip.
