Windsurfer Allison Shreeve failed her record bid to cross the Bass Strait.
The Sidney sportswoman had to pull out due to mild hypothermia and cramps about 80km off the Victorian coast.
She had left Tasmania at 7.30am.
Very strong winds met Shreeve near Stanley, on Tasmania's north-west coast.
The 27 year-olf female windsurfer was expecting a 17 hour course, but very hard leg spasms defeated her attempt.
The only cop cars we saw were the ones parked by the station as we drove downtown.
Much closer now that I'm living in the states but still not the cheapest destination. Went from sailing a 125L out of the straps to sailing a 93L comfortably in the straps within a few weeks (well, days!). I got similar wind as my trip to Hatteras, but the water was a lot bluer, and there were less nasty things to worry about (no sea urchins in Hatteras, though!).
