If enough old style, wally, long sailboard fans (Windsurfer OneDesign, Mistral OneDesign, etc, etc) post their expressions of disappointment here, under this topic, we should be able to get it reinstated. There are a hell of a lot of us out there - unfortunately they're generally the 'silent majority' types that require some encouragement before they'll get vocal. Come on Wallys - let your voices be heard - here is your opportunity!

When I was young, I dreamt of becoming WALLYWORLD CHAMP but now I've joined the vocal majority.

I think the forum was too narrow as just windsurfer one-design.

I would like to see the forum back as "longboards" (or something to that effect), which would cover course racing, windsurfer one design, mistral IMCO, Neil Pryde RS, old school freestyle, longboard technique etc etc. More or less anything with a centreboard. I think the interest and volume of traffic (and diversity of topics) would increase significantly.

At the moment the only site to my knowledge is lbwindsurf.com, which is an international site.

I had assumed it was all manner of 'class' of windsurfers...would be great if it was brought back, but on the flipside I reckon there are Wally sailors who have posted in the General section as they may feel they have a wider audience there..

Would be great if the Forum Regulator could explain his logic

Yep fully agree. I sail longboards and OD's Help with all is better than having no help at all.

We should consider all of these suggestions for extra forums. I totally agree with Clarence and Jermaldan's suggestions and think we should also add one specialising in the future of our sport so I vote for a KIDS one as well.

I'm talking old school "railride" type freestyle (for those who still remember them), not the shortboard aerial variety.

Maybe the middle of winter isn't the best time to introduce a longboard forum ......there is no correlation between whale migration and longboard sightings...who would have thought....

I agree long-boarders should have their own forum if they want it. There is a lot of hate about and this would form a safe hate free ecosystem for them to share their thoughts without the risk of being hated on and prejudiced against.

Maybe one day we can all get along? I'm for Wally Pride.

There are not too many wally boarders in Seabreeze, probably because its mostly all short boarders. I am sure the few wally boarders on here probably struggle with finding topics relevant to them unless they are also ride shortboards. (Excluding caption comps)

In a wally forum they can talk about, course racing and wally repairs and right of way etc... More of them would come out of the closet because they would have their own hangout!

Yes, actually I'm a part-time short-board freestyler too. So, to answer your question, when he was making the forum categories Laurie surveyed for expressions of interest in a Freestyle forum but unfortunately there wasn't enough of us to warrant our own category. I hope this will change over time.

You are entitled to your insular opinion on longboard matters (as above), but from my reading of it, you seem pretty hung up yourself on the whole closet/prejudice thing. I am wondering is this in anyway a substitute for something else you may be experiencing?

I have no opinion on long board matters, just think that everyone needs their own place where they can belong and hang out with like minded people.

It's not my cup of tea, but who am I to judge what people do in their own time.

Bring the category back and let them do what they want. Its not hurting anyone? It doesn't impact my shortboard riding in any way so why should I care?

I checked it daily to see if anything was new. But yes there was not enough people posting as it was limited to OD's, change it to All Longboards and it would definitely get more attention.

Surely if the ONLY issue was the name then the name would've been changed instead of the removal of the forum (a bit like your name AyreForce1/Wndsrfer1/Stephano).

It sounds to me like you are only giving one side of the story here. Perhaps the current committee should be discussing this with the members instead of this being done by an ex committee member like you because it is really bad for the sport to have such disharmony. Totally unnecessary!

In any case, none of this matters. The forum wasn't used much. People have made an excellent suggestion to expand the forum to include all longboards and that has the potential to get more use. Maybe that's the best way to go IF there's enough interest. So far from this thread it appears there is virtually no support (2 people) for reinstating it as it was and limited support (5 people) for adding a new forum for all longboards. Considering this thread is about Wallys, the freestyle forum has generated almost as much support!

seems like the Onedesign forum was introduced on a trial period, too bad it was done during winter and all the local pros are away in Europe for the summer competing in the Windsurfer OneDesign World ProTour.

seriously; would be nice to replace it with a Longboard forum.

there is still a bunch of big-board sailors out there and seabreeze seems to be most peoples 1st choice.
they are not the most vocal, but the info is always good.

I sail ODs and I don't even see the point for such a forum.

For the 3-4 times a year that there are OD-related postings, the general Seabreeze Windsurfing forum does the job.
I don't remember anyone ever complaining about the OD Nats being posted there, for instance.
Ditto longboard questions, and vintage equipment.

The one thing that confused me about the brief forum was that it seemed to claim to be the official thing, whereas the Ass'n has a site.

Personally I switch on-water between long- and shortboard equipment, and it's more fun.
Fellow sailors find that amusing, and try it sometimes. So ditto in Seabreeze: let's mix it up on the same beach-forum...

Thanks KA360. Windsurfers, participating in a WINDSURFER centric forum and providing each other with useful information, is all about creating synergy and harmony. Disingenuously manouvering to have that forum taken away, and from the people that you are supposed to represent – there is no doubt that is going to cause a lot of disharmony! Myself and many others would also like to hear the other side of the story - but that needs to come from that other individual and not 2nd hand misinformation from yourself. I stood down as President of WOD at the end of Jan 2013 after the successful running of our 2013 National Champs at Sorrento, VIC (and our 2012 States at BYRA well prior to that). I was, along with several others, elected to the new committee at that time and I have not resigned from that committee. I continue to strive for the rejuvenation of the WOD class (along with other committee members) with the primary goal of increasing the size of our racing fleets. The establishment of the WOD Seabreeze Forum was as a result of a reasonable amount of effort on my part – so I am obviously very keen for it to continue and prosper – and we don’t want that effort and that awesome opportunity to be trashed by someone else’s myopic view.

I’ve already said that I’m happy for the forum to be broadened to include those older style one design Wally era boards and to change the name to one that reflects that wider audience. And I’m sure that proposal will receive plenty of support from others including the WINDSURFER OneDesign community. The discussion topics were never intended to be only about racing –it was quite broad and included old style freestyle etc. It has been gradually building momentum and I believe with a little more effort will be successful. Though the WALLY forum shouldn’t be forced to justify its existence purely on the basis of number of views /posts /topics. There’s a lot of history and a lot of stories in the Wally era – and I fully understand that some others, like yourself, might not be interested in it – but of course no one is forcing you to look at it, and you can easily participate and enjoy other forums on Seabreeze and also lbwindsurf.com.

But to include all longboards, including modern raceboards, misses the point. There is not much synergy between the two. With our own separate forum we are provided a bit of distance from the negative views of those who 'just don't get it'.

hi Pierre, after reading your post i went looking for the offical association site and found this yahoo group;

groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/WindsurferOD/conversations/topics

seems like there has been one post for the whole of 2013, and fewer than this tread alone during 2012.

i am a keen Windsurfer sailor and had no idea this group existed.

i too don't see much point of a WOD forum here, but Longboard would be good; currently i trawl thru General, NSW and QLD to follow Wally and Longboard stuff.
i used to look at LBWS but havn't for years.
