Severne make more than one mast, as do every company. You're not at the level where you should be worried about this stuff. You're either unaware of the vast differences in masts or just trolling/slandering. I personally think it's the former, because if it's an attempt at the latter then it's a really bad one.

Don't bother playing the victim. You're on the internet, and you're a little out of your depth. It could have been worse.

A warranty is great if you break 1 mast a year but it is useless if you break one every week as you may wait months for a replacement and who should pay for the sail repair? If a product has a history of breaking and the rider is injured or killed then the company should be held liable, is this not possible?

its a fair comment i actually almost changed over after breaking 2 masts in a row for absolutely no reason .

Cant a company make a mast that is just really reliable even if it costs as much as the 100% carbon model and weighs a bit more .

In theory if you put any mast in a certain situation it'll break. Pretty much all the mast across the board are better these days. You don't see anywhere the breakages you used to.
I feel for severne with the bad batch situation ( whatever mast it was). I remember fibrespar had a similar situation years back. I did 13 in a season. So I can agree that it does happen.
I can't remember the last mast I broke recently to be honest

Well nobody in the ws industry actually makes anything themselves do they?
Its a third party,subbie supplier/factory in China or wherever that makes masts and sails for a bunch of brands and they then put that particular brands sticker on the mast.
All price driven me thinks with limited control of the final product by the brand.
Board reliability has also improved out of sight in the last 10 years,its about time masts caught up.

I would say quite the opposite!

I see boards broken where there is glass that has not been fully wet out - and that is unforgivable when it is done by hand - it is pure slackness. And guess what, the board breaks out of warranty so they don't care. It is luck of the draw buying a board made my Cobra, some will last 5yrs of hard jumping and others of same model break after 2yrs of flat water sailing.

I see RDM masts that are unbreakable - yes I know we were talking 100% race masts in SDM, but given wavesailors used to break a mast or ten every season and now many people have not broken a mast for a LONG time, the new RDM's are fkn superb.

Maybe it is the case that once a month sailors need to realise they don't need a 100% race mast....... and also that they can't knock it around .......buy the 75% alternative and treat it nice and you will not have a problem.

100% blast and 100% last the ultimate goal for any designer

Budget and $$$$$$ = is the compromise to performance ,,,, taking away the human skill factor.

Remember cutting edge design and technology and materials are always going to fail and will never be any match to the elements of earth fire and water

Carnt wait for the full set of Severne stuff for 13/14
