dry it out, sun, hair dryer etc, coat it with mercurochrome, from the local chemist, reapply it after each session, keep it as dry as possible, I find bandaids etc keep it damp, so Id cover it while in the water, but when out dry and sun, if its nasty, you can use those waterproof bandaids, but youve got catch it b4 it festers....also if it gets a bit nasty spray collodial silver, from chemist, on it keep up the application and drink some to, dont drink too much cause youll turn blue but a bits OK, (well it helped me with a nasty one on the shin that 3 doses of antibiotics couldnt knock off)

super glue it everytime you sail, works a treat. Bestway to keep it dry. I had a small blister on my pinky toe in maui that ended up turning into a sea ulcer and ate thru to the to knuckle. superglue was the only thing that kept it dry. Eventually a scab will form underneath and fall off naturally when its healed.

just don't worry about it. It will go heaps deep than it just heals, like in a few days. They dont hurt so you can just forget about it.

think it was either Mark Aus or the russian bloke that told me this:

tiz tried n tested -

get some aquaear from chemist - keep it in car with an old toothbrush...

aftersailing....

scrub / pick cut , open it up, get it bleeding

grit teeth, pour in aquaear, douse toothbrush in aquaear...give wound a scrub, kill those pesky little vermin f***ers

the pain is a bad sting;;; but NOTHING compared to the agonising hell of a coral infection --- (should it get that far)

Is it true, or an urban myth, that Superglue was invented during the Vietnam war to glue wounds closed in the field? Sounds like Dan's idea is perfect - reapplying before going out as necessary. Hmmm, should keep some in the car.

Though on second thought it may not be a good idea with those folks prowling in the red commodore - they would probably find it and superglue all the locks and transmission. [}:)] Hey a better idea - we should all carry it and if anyone catches those low-lifes then superglue their hands to their faces, mouths/lips shut, and maybe a few other orifices - and then let them loose at woodies for the kiter and WS crew to have some fun with.

I've got a mate who's a plumber, he swears by PVC pipe primer! Reckons that it stings like mad, but cleans any infection out, and apparently leaves no scar.

(Heresay only, might want to check if OK before pouring on open wounds!)

I had a gash on my foot that the doctor couldnt stitch so he used "medical" superglue. Same as ordinary superglue but more sterile. And BETADINE.(antiseptic)is good sh1t.

Took da boot off , after i put a sealed patch over it for the day .

The pussy yellow healing discharge smelt like a hores hand bag.

This twenty cent pot hole was worth a sniff....................

Super glue maybe for a cut .......this is a sea ulser from a simple twenty cent scrap which hardly broke the skin, which has festered after going in and out of the straps.

I took some advise but and opend a couple of cans of piss.

Taped a bud ,line and stem of alavera on it over night and passed out.

It smelts and looks great this morning.

This is true.

I even got that passed throught an animal ethics commitee

Hehe, gluing rats together

Nah, glued a cotton spool onto their back fur to see where they go in their travels

*envisions crazy scientists gluing rats together to make a super-rat*

So the moral, if its good enough for (really picky) animal ethics committees, then its good enough for your foot

I've been told by a few old sea dogs that Paw paw skin flesh side to the wound will disolve any coral etc and clear it up with in few days.. I've never had to try it.. works well for sea urchins too apparently. I think pineapple skin does the same? Must be super fresh, something to do with the enzymes,, good luck

the superglue isnt for keeping a cut together, its for keeping it dry. It works great and its the only thing ive ever found to work well on sea ulcers. just put it on in thin layers to make sure it goes off properly then youll be right. As far as plumbers primer goes, it would clean it and it definately will sting like a !@#$, but it wouldnt keep it dry unless you followed up by gluing yourself as well, but the pressure pipe glue peels off quite easy so its no good if your going in and out of a footstrap all day. Im tellin ya go the superglue, might as well give it a shot, sounds like amputation is going to be the next step if you dont do something

From years of experience on reefs and access to ER Docs.
Hydrogen Peroxide on the wound to clean out anything that reacts with O2 = germs, dried blood, Coral, bacteria etc.
Clean all the crap out apply again, every time you see it foam bad stuff is in the wound.
When you have it clean, get the Betadine spray apply it and then keep it dry for as long as you can.
Repeat twice a day, and if symptoms persist -> Dr or ER.
In particular look for any redness in under the skin tracking away form the wound = poison into your system.

This works well after an urchin invasion into the foot from first hand experience.

Doc Grace is on the money with the Hyd Peroxide and Betadine, he looked after me for the week at Gnaraloo, and the scrapes I had with the reefs up there But no infections from all the damage

Lao put me onto this topic, because of the super glue info, for my burst blisters.

Being a cautious old fart, I did some research first, found that the difference between super glue and surgical glue is the type of alcohol in it, the stuff in super glue is more harmful to the skin.

So I went to the chemist to see if they sold the real thing, but came away with a different product altogether. Well 2 products actually, the first is a very firm jelly like stuff with an adhesive one side.
Provides the correct environment for the wound to heal, the second is a flexible waterproof covering that goes over the top. The whole thing stays on for about a week, to be replaced if necessary.

The 1st stuff is called "Cuttinova" the 2nd stuff is "Fixomull"

Here's what it looks like on

You can see the pad covering 2 blisters under the top covering.
