Check out Starboard's blurb on their Kode - seems like they've tried to keep them wave friendly right up to 122 litre. Then again, they seem to admit that the greater the volume, the more you're compromising wave performance.

SO = significant other.
I was making the point that forums tend to abound with answers that can be a little detached from reality, though this forum is really not too bad for that.
If you have not ridden in the open ocean for a while, then a board with soft rails that planes and turns easily and goes upwind well will be better than a board that bottom turns well.
As I said, I found the FSW an ideal platform for regaining my mad ocean skillz.

If you want to ride in waves, as opposed to riding waves, then a FSW works fine, and they are great boards for getting back into the zone.
I used a JP FSW for this, and it worked very well. No, not a great wave board, but definitely a great board for getting out there and bashing through onshore slop.
It's a forum, where everyone's pecs are buff, all the SO's have a perfect rack and everyone carves mast high glass on a regular basis.

Errr, what's an "SO"? I want to do both just like I used to, jump on the way out/in or ride on the way in and if it's really crappy waves blast out the back. This time around I want to put more attention to small wave riding especially on a floatier board in lighter air. All I need is a board to have wave riding pretensions at this stage.

Which leads to, I read up last night the FSW styles, I think this is what evolved from my old wave/slalom board but quicker on the plane which I like. I think this style might be better than a Freeride for me. I'm putting this style high on my wish list. Thanks KenHo.

BTW, where does a JP X-Cite ride fit into the picture?

Ordinez's boards freakin rock - im lucky enough to have a 82 Rf, custom 80 classic & 98custom rocket ( though it weighs over 20# now)..

that said at 205->210 # i use an old rw 270 xl (130 L board-- can ya freakin believe it?!) for very light winds --9--> 13 knotts--just enough to waterstart w/ considerable effort w/ a 5.6. switched the fins so that the center fin is a sanded down 7inch fin to 6 inch and 2 x 4.125 surf fin side biters..works surprisingly well in very light wind conditions but admitingly requires 1-2 foot overhead (+) waves that stay peaked up (as opposed to quick close outs) to work well... beats the h'll out of sitting on the beach while the light weight 130-140 #'er's are out killin it..!

Funny enough, I tried my 165lt xcite ride & 7.5m cammed Koncept in the waves yesterday (I know = ). Wind was <10kts, but huge swell got me a bit excited!

End result, as a wave board (and coming from a w/surfer with very little wave experience), I wouldn't recommend the 'large' xcite, or cammed sail for that matter! Had a blast, but had to uphaul a big sail between sets, after getting smashed, and not being able to turn, especially bottom turns on the waves took most of the fun out of it. In saying that, it handled well on the waves when I simply cruised along, with a fair bit of manoueverability for it's size.

One that hasn't been mentioned is the Starboard Aero (117 & 127lt). A mate has one, but hasn't tried it in the surf, it's very wide & short, and feels like it would turn well on a wave?
