I did get a bit distressed when I heard about that english dude flying onto/into the cafe at Wello.(bit like the coyote on roadrunner). Imagine sitting down at an outdoor table, peacefully eating your fish and chips when BANG !Kiter comes through the power lines, across the road, and ends up on the roof(I think).

Not really, I've generally found them to be pleasant young men with an eye for Fashion. Generally they are keen to discuss new recipies and home decorating ideas. The ones I met are always well groomed and smell nice.

Re: Scared rabbits caught in the headlights.

Sometimes I can see it in their big bunny-eyes.
Irrational fear I'm talking about.
Unjustified anxiety stemming from their absurd string-paranoia.
Many times I've been forced to end their pain...
to humanely put them out of their misery.
So I load the weapon....
and BOOOOST )))))))
lol.

My 50m downwind-drift safely places them in a non-vulnerable position.
Out of harms way, so to speak.
The green-zone.

Their expression of relief,
that burden of stress that's instantly relieved....
immediately the worry-face is washed clean.

It's priceless.

Has anyone contemplated this from a sea creatures point of view?

Windsurfer - smooth or constant slap/slap/slap lots of under water warning and any landings in a break masked by the waves and they self rescue. Sea creatures happy

Kite person - stealth attack no noise as the rail just holds the water, bombies from height, any underwater creature would be frightened by the sudden appearance of a sweet smelling, nice hair do on a tray. You would probably react badly as well

Poley string-paranoia is a very misunderstood emotion.
A mental condition not unlike fear-of-the-dark.
Because poleys can't see the strings (from a distance),
they always fear the worst.
For a poley, the kite itself is actually the lesser of the two evils.
But those invisible lines are satan's strings.
lol.

Now,
if the lines were thicker maybe,
so you could actually see the things as they fly thru the sky....
Perhaps if they were say one inch thick,
(but of course they would need to be made from strong, feather-lite material).....
then the poleys would be less anxious, I guess ?
To them, the thick kitelines would look like very long skinny masts.
Four 25m long masts connected to a sail.
lol.

If you could only cut your kite into a triangular shape and attach one thick carbon fibre string to the leading edge....

It's not the strings that worry me ..It's the dude in the pink boardies and blonde tips, squirming inthe air like his gold neck chain is pulling his chest hair, checking out my package as he resurfaces from another failed landing in the wave zone

Honestly the flacid, limp and soft lines don't bother me. I just worry when they power up and get hard in the hands of young men with pink boardies and blonde tips

Top quality lure you are using there, its almost too easy though. Perhaps we should start a similar thread in kite forum.

"really really really fast out of control windsurfer"
A windsurfer today was seen going soooooooooooo fast he forgot to turn as he looked at his own reflection and shouted out "look how hard this sport is, FIGJAM!"

but that might get a entire post full of childish replies like this one.... go figure.

I'll second Stribo after being in that "Green zone" and having to to bail to avoid an airborn out of control kiter from taking me out, twice. Also been tangled in lines in the shore break a few times from dropped kites which does get a little scary.
The kiters are ok because their safe at one end while we're the ones caught in the middle of the web and they wonder why we done ask them out on dates
I have some very good friends who kite ,so I don't hate them all, just the ones who get in the way

I got whacked on the head by a kite today!! This guy was struggling in the shorebreak doing god-knows-what, and his kite swung down and around and *bamf* whacked me in the head. It didn't hurt! Just shocked me - now, if that had been a windsurfer, it wiould have HURT!!

The guy came up and apologised, which was nice!

But, it serves me right for being on the beach when I should've been out on the water!

How selfish of you WW - you should know better than to just sedately walk along a beach. Have some consideration for others and ensure you look around every few seconds so you don't get in a kites way. And if you're within 100m of a kite you should either run away or be prepared to catch the kite - you should know the rules by now.

Hi JP - dinghies never tried a 14' (or BR etc) - sailed Manly Junior, Flying Ant, Cherub, 420, Moth and Contender. And a heap of one design keelboats & ocean racers. Always felt I missed out on something by not sailing the true skiffs - 14', 16' or 18's.

The flares would work great on kites - a giant chinese burning lantern - hmmmmm that would make a great photo[}:)]
