I just bought Loft boom from Windsurfingsales in Sydney. There was some problem with transportation (courier's fault, not seller's) but Bud and Matt from Windsurfingsales fixed that in absolutely perfect, top level service way. I am deeply impressed how great service they provided to me. Yes - I strongly recommend these people to deal with !
Thanks again Bud and Matt !

Totally agree.
Bud always answers my novice questions with real info, not just trying to sell me stuff. And in an instant and friendly manner offered replacement when the TNT bumped the package a bit

I reckon the best (quality and price) gear you can get when you're not near a shop like me (if not on whole, wouldn't know as no ws shop exp)

Here's a link for the loft gear vids (both product, rigging and wave vids)

Six thumbs up now!

Wots the relationship (if any) between Gun and Loft? I remember GUN from years ago in pommy mags. They always had nice looking sails and for a while some fast French guy was using them.

Never heard of Loft till this year. I haven't seen any Lofts or GUNs out on the water around Sydney.

I have seen a few guys here in Perth using them, I would like to know why they are so appealing to those guys, if you dont mind a breif explanation the reasons they are so good would be great, I reckon they look great on the water.

I'm using Loft Blades because they're the only 4 cammed bigger race sail that rigs on a constant curve skinny.

Apart from that they're inexpensive, you'd be hard pressed to find a sail of the same quality for the same price.

Personally I don't like the Loft wave sails, but it's horses for courses there, some people swear by them!

The Loft Blades (I don't own any yet) are being used in the PWA now, Valerie Ghibaudo is doing well in the chicks on them (1st's in slalom races)

The 02 freeride is getting good reviews and has heaps of xply (thinking of getting some soon), the RDM's are best priced too

The Gun sails (Wave MC) are the best priced sail in Aus and seem to be built as well as my gaastra sail

Mobydisc - Crash Landing used Gun Lip Wave's (he's in Syd) I got a good 2nd hand one off him (cheers Crash), ^ he's using Loft Lip Waves now apparently, so there are some sailing around your area. I think Vando swears by Loft too (from his posts here and on loft forum).

And Gun and Loft are Constant Curve so will go nicely with eachother (not specifically only on their own gear like 'Big' brands). The Gun pin base goes into the Gun rdm mast extension goes into the loft rdm goes into the cc sail.

If you want your sails to be great price, durable, cc, nice looking and building a good rep (without being costly yet), i'd go the Windsurfing Sails Loft or Gun's (i'm stoked with them cause they are affordable for everyday WS'er and uni student unlike NP)

GT, not that I am any sort of an expert on sails and how what and why they perform, but I purchased the Loft 02's when the supplier had them up as a one off deal. Did some home work via web page on its score sheet and selected via that.
Have found them to be very light on the hands too use, and forgiving in area's that others are changing down, and I don’t have too (well basically I am a lazy pr1ck and rather hang in there with a tad overpowered)
Have tried a few brands to compare and gauge the performance. So far I haven’t struck any that I could rig and go with directly, most took some time to tune in, compared to the Loft. Possibly I got the Loft right first time, by following rig guide. Haven’t tried any top brands, mate I cant afford the up front price
I have the Loft02, 6.6 and the 7.4 free-ride.
Only grumble I had was I didn’t go the 6.6 much when I tried it out after using the 7.4 for a while. Went back to rig guide, asked outlet for some tips, and it came good from there.
Have found that set up is best with
Downhaul until top panel has crease about 2/3rds way across and a neutral outhaul on settings recommendation.
Use mine with SDM and NP 100% Carbon boom
Your team mate selected for same reason I think

Any time your down at LB, your welcome to take mine for a burl (that's if your out of winter hibernation any time soon)

I got a 5.9 O2 cos it was cheap and had good reviews. I've never had a no cam sail before and was amazed how well it went and nice in my hands. I just clocked a 2sec max of 35.77 knots on it in 30+ wind and it felt sweet, I think it's got more in it. On the day my mate who is a better sailer only got about half a knot more with a 5.8 Koncept, so I'm happy and will be staying with Loft

Glad you like it! I think 4 people got rather good deals on those MC's!

At the end of the day Loft is owned by a certain guy called Monty Spindler, whom most of you should know! He did some awesome stuff back with ART including the Blades - hence why he calls the Loft race sails Blades.

All sails are getting closer and closer in terms of functionality and durability.

Loft Lips are excellent and often win tests.

Moby, you're sailing with your eye's closed, I've been out in Botany where Loft have had at least 35% of all sails out!!!

If anyone wants to try a Lip PM me and we can sort something out (within the Sydney area!!).

I haven't sailed at Botany much. Once in massive southerly where I was too busy trying to keep going. Every time last summer we went down there it was too busy and there were no parks.

On the north side where I go, there is more pryde spirit.

Nah, a lot more than 10%. What's the average number of sailors at Botany, 50? There's a lot more than 5 people using Loft sails!

Anyway, I was saying that a lot of people use Loft at Botany, I haven't actually sat and counted, it's probably because of the style of sailor there. If you head to speed strips, formula races and wave events you'll definitely find more NP, Gaastra etc.

Great feed back guys,

Question time-
I have mainly NP masts, booms, mast base and a 93ltr FSW, I am 90 kgs 176 cm short, Will I need to get all Gun and Loft gear?

I see that they are cross compatible with each other but will they be ok with NP masts and booms?

I am a free rider looking for no cams, I sail the river and choppy stuff in the ocean (Scared of waves at the mo)

Is there a range non cammed free ride that will help me hit 30knts? Speed is my goal but let me put it in perspective, If I hit 30 knts it is equivilant 50knts in my head

Thanks again GT

Hey Mintox,
I'm pretty much in exactly the same stage as you (river sailer, making intro to ocean no waves yet)

Probably best to go all constant curve gear (NP isn't cc) (but i'm running a '04 gaastra on Loft RDM 460 100%carbon, its battens don't pop great cause the sail is stifftop but heaps better then my really old sdm slalom masts and real responsive)

Spotty got 43 knots on a non-cammed KA Sails Koyote 5.3
www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?whichpage=-1&TOPIC_ID=38020&REPLY_ID=242403
Maybe the o2 freeride from loft is equivalent? (dunno hey)

Plus, KA and Loft are both constant curve (mix-and-match)

As for mast base etc, loft masts are RDM, so need RDM base (but Windsurfing Sales have good priced Gun ones that are interchangeable with Loft gear and RDM is way of the future!)

Loft O2 sound like what your after they are a No cam free ride sail that run on both SDM and RDM but RDMs are the way to go for sure.
Not sure how they rig in a NP mast though.

You can ask Monty (designer) this question directley on his forum - I think its probably been asked already so do a search first

http://www.loftsails.com/kam_pages/1/e/21.php

Or ask 'Shear Tip' (third reply to this thread) he uses a Loft sail on an old pryde SDM mast without problems.

Thank heaps fellas, all of you:)

Go - Sorry for kinda hijacking the thread but your positive comments awoke my thinking towards loft sails.

Ok Im typing as I am thinking, here is what have in current quiver.
Pryde Power XT mast base suits all my current masts.
4.2 Zone (3 or 4 seasons old) I have incase it blows it's t1ts off - not used yet so keeping it
4.7 Zone is 3 seasons old in top nick, it's a keeper.
5.5 Search 2 seasons old, a keeper.
6.0 Ezzy a great sail but 5 or more seasons old, it will be sold off or used as a trade for somthing.
6.9 Expression 3 seasons old in top nick, keeper mainly for river conditions.

400 / 19 NP Wavepro looks standard diameter
430 / 21 XC65 has a standard looking base then tappers down to like a skinny, sorry don't know what sdm,rdm and ndm mean I guess mast diameter. Here is one in a pic.

www.trademe.co.nz/sports/windsurfing/auction-164287453.htm

460 Is a cheap no name type with zero markings but is a standard diameter, I would upgrade this to as DavMen kinda suggests an SDM.

460 sdm 80% 25 2.10

I have 5 sails in my quiver 2 are near new and 1 is doing fine so 2 are up for a change, I am thinking of getting the Loft 5.9 and the 6.6

5.9446188430/21 rdm430, 4606* + SensiTip04.101,3
6.6470203460/25 rdm430, 4606* + SensiTip04.361,3

How does that sound guys, looks as if with the NP 430 sdm can be used with the Loft 5.9 and then I upgrade my old 460 to a new Loft 460 80% Sdm to suite the Loft 6.6.

Anyone disagree in a big way or will this do? Your thoughts appreciated.

Cheers GT

depends what type of sailing you do. I wouldn't buy anything but a wave/free-style sail up to 6.5m's as that's the only sailing I do. So I'd get a Lip 5.9 and either a Free360 in a 6.5 or O2 6.6.

Cheers Crash,

I have posted my question at the Loft forum, but by in-large I feel the idea I have suggested will be the most affordable and give flexability over a couple of brands for my sailing style and quiver.

I am still open to being told I am wrong Well not wrong but there may be a better way.

Reply from Monty at Loft for interest people.

Yes your standard diameter 430 will work well with our O2 5.9.
You should try your old sdm460 before making the purchase of a new 460- I suspect your old mast will work well...
Rdms rig more easily and from my experience they have a softer, more friendly feel. They are MUCH more resistant to breaking than are ndms.
Good winds,
Monty

Again cheers everyone, I may have some new Loft sails soon :)
