OK - how many are going to commit to a loop this summer? I am gunno get it done.

Me, but I first have to go and have the fear gland removed from my brain that makes me eyeball the crash site when I attempt a loop

Turn your head towards your back hand & look at the clew as you jump.

I know, but the primordial lizard instinct says otherwise mid flight. Crazy I know, as it hurts more than getting it half right and landing on your back. I think copious amounts of drugs are required next time I try and crack it

Good to see lot's of guys pulling the trigger

Forwards are one of the easier moves to learn, but are also probably the scariest to try!
All about getting the move down in your head, then just committing to it..

#1 tip when you're learning - look under your back armpit, and don't look back! This helps you rotate and most importantly it stops you freaking out and bailing..

Vicco guys - tonight looks like lots of wind forecast, anyone feel free to come down to Elwood at the pipe and come and say hi. More than happy to spend some time helping guys try some. Got 2 other mates coming down tonight who have just tried their first few forwards

A couple of us were just saying last week we should hold the 'forward clinic' on the bay again this summer..

I completely agree, I feel a lot safer crashing back loop attempts than trying a forward...I am completely fearless to go full speed on a 1,5-2m ramp and try a back loop but am terrified to try a forward from a 0,5m ramp...one day I'll decide and do it

I exit the forward loop planing in my head, but it doesn't help me when on water...

Daz & I will be in. At the end of summer we had one session where that was all we tried. I got around twice, but haven't tried since. Need to get back on the band wagon.

I've got a couple of decent back slaps but that it and I learned for forward on flat water. Was chucking a few around at Peli yesterday for good measure.

Just follow the 4 Steps and that's it.

If you decided that the 4 steps aren't for you and you already know how to Loop, then good luck. This is what one of my mates has decided, and the result is low-altitude end-over-end killer loops.

"Do the 4 Steps!"

"Yeah, yeah, sure. Definitely."

Cue face-first looking-forward chop-hop to sheet-in to potential knock-out blow.

And repeat...

I don't sail with her any more. It's too scary to watch.

Well I pulled the trigger today and the first thing I noticed was the distinctive backslap! Not at all like a catapult. For some reasons catapults seem softer. This was a a slam that took the wind out of me for a second.

Iam trying to follow Remy's steps.
I can't get past step one. Every time I throw my self forward the board stays put and my feet get flung out of straps.

Iam on flat water 5.0m and 90 litre and planning 20 knts
Any tips??

I think in step 1 you're supposed to come out of the straps. Keep at it dude. I didn't try today, but I was massively overpowered with a 5.5 up so you can guess it wasn't really learning weather. I did get a stink load of speed up on a few beam reaches though. YEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAA

I think 20 is too fast if you're not popping the fin out. Step one is slooowww, non planing.

That is just the "no-hands and no-feet" loop that all the pro's are trying to master... what you didn't see is that - mid superman-flight - Joel managed to slip back into the straps, hook-in and do an air-punch with both arms.

Don't throw yourself forwards. 4 Steps says nothing about throwing yourself forwards - in fact that's a pretty good way of getting hurt.

If you're trying it at speed and getting ripped out of the straps then turn more downwind at the moment of takeoff. Dead downwind will do.

Just on that... dont trundle off downwind for 100m - you will stall the sail completely -> know where you are going to launch from.

Also worth considering, when I was learning, Mr Flicky noticed my loop-attempts, then gave me some pointers. If you have someone else to sail with, get them to critique you as it will give you incentive to actually do it, as well as reminding you of the various suggestions mentioned here.

At 4:50 Remco mentions throwing the body forward. I must admit I thought it was entirely about getting the sail across and forward and just going with the catapult.
