Your Majesties, Caption Comp #118 Laureate, Your Royal Highnesses, Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen,
This award must be viewed in the light of the prevailing situation in the world: rock singers turning politician, the randomness of yellow boardies with red polka dots, Tony Abbott and his virginity pronouncements, Prince Harry falling from his polo pony, and Corey Worthington headhunted by Hollywood to play a teenage deadbeat dropout.
The question was actually quite simple. Who has done most for humour in the past fortnight? I am to award the Caption Comp # 118 Prize to the person who, during this last week shall have done the most or the best work "for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of tragedians and for the holding and promotion of humour alliances". And that has not been an easy choice, given the shining brilliance of all who have contributed. Because of the toughness of the decision sought, the vote went to a tribunal of friends, to reach consensus, the clincher line being “the harness hook was to be a belly button piercing”!
For a winner there must be. From the very first moment of his repartee, Graceman has been trying to create a more satirical climate which can help reverse the present trend.
Graceman has achieved a great deal. Multilateral jocoseness has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the forums can play.
We congratulate this week’s Laureate, Graceman, on what he has already achieved, and wish him every possible success in his continuing efforts for a more waggish world.
May you receive the help you truly deserve!
