i agree,

i always do my best forward loops when i sail on my own. something about the serenity. matter of fact last time i sailed on my own i managed a perfect table top grubby.

i reckon maybe not having others on the water gives you less wind turbulence.

I find planing is much easier sailing solo.

I sail solo so often its nice to have company and someone to sail with..as long as they are worse than me.. Must admit I always seem to sail better when there is no one else around to compare myself with..

The days I sail alone are usually because no-one else believes there's enough wind & all decline the offer for a sail...most times there IS enough, and I end up on big gear just cruising & chop-hopping.

Can't agree more. I also often sail my local beaches which I admit are often not very user friendly for those not familiar with the local hazards and where the wind holes are. It is also convenient to be able to sail just 2 minutes down the road.

I usually go sailing on my own but there are other people out sailing also.(meaning I am not with them, but they are there)
I feel more comfortable if there is at least one other person on the water, especially in unfamiliar territory.


Having said that the best session I ever had was a calm sunny summer morning on the river when no one else was out because they would have thought there wasn't enough wind, and a couple of dolphins came swimming around me. I dropped my sail and sat on my board to watch them and they swam around and under the board and it was fantastic.

That would have been lovely.

I avoid it. Get too paranoid about my uni joint or something breaking.

Having someone out there settles my nerves a little.

Used to sail alone all the time in Bundaberg and at North Leighton.
I've been out once by myself here at Casuarina, and plan to do more this year. After my trip to Maui I have built my confidence back up again, that's for sure.

All the time, not too many of the Pit Crew are crazy enough to join me for a sail at 2am to do a 300km trip I love that first light on the water with the whole beach to yourself or sailing at night with the sparkling garfish.
The thing to remember is " what do i have to do if it all goes wrong" and "can i do it". Be fit, good at self rescue, have your gear in good condition and know your limits, I don,t want to put someone in danger just to save me.

I love my "big" gear. Nothing like planing when everyone else is standing on the beach.

i feel am the fastest on the entire island at that particular time..i know who and where everyone else just the 7 of us sail anyways

Or the only one out on the lake...

a nothing thing about sharks is they follo u .. even at 20knots or so board speed so as soon as ya fall off swim ya legs numb to get on ya board i rekon u got bout 4sec before they get ya:)

Had a mid week solo session today, sail solo most days, really enjoy it when i get to sail with other people. After sail beers & BBQ are much better with company.

only problem with sailing alone is that you have no-one to gybe around...

In all the years Ive sailed I've never had an after sail ' beer ( wine) & Bbq'.. Be nice to have a social group & do that..

Take your Webberque and esky down to the beach. You can sit there admiring the sunset and share a sausage with whoever turns up.

That is what we do during summer. Ah summer......

Sailing solo. Don't do it much since moving to Sydney but when living in the country it was quite normal to go sailing alone.

One of my most memorable solo sessions was on a overcast day at Windang Island with a southerly blowing. I was on a Bombora Zot as the wind was light and using a 6m Air sail. Putting out through the break and catching waves back in. All of a sudden I saw grey shapes moving in the water.

"Oh sh!t" I thought. Breaching suddenly I saw they were dolphins, two of them. They accompanied me for about 10 minutes, with them besides me as I caught a few waves and surfed them straight back in.
