New spots are always fun, The unkowns...How deeps the water.....How good is the wind......Is that big rock going to hurt? Our latest find is a gem, They tell me that "back in the day" it was packed with windsurfers and other watercraft but now it's deserted and just lies in wait for us to bring it back to life. The vids nothing flash, just me blasting back and forth but it will give you an idea of the lake and the conditions. I was a bit underpowered on my 6.2 as the southerly didn't really kick in, 10-15 most of the time with some 20knot gusts. We can't wait to get back to see what else this place has to offer, This place is pure gold and worth the trip. I guess it's not new as there was 2 kiters out the last time we were there, But it's new to me.....But i guess there's always a new spot, a lake or a river somewhere?

He can't tell us because otherwise thousands of windsurfers will descend upon there and spoil it for the locals.

The opening to the ocean suggests that, but its hard to tell.

Jason is wearing his GPS on his arm! So was Keef
They posted their results on GPSTC and you can probably see the tracks on KA72.
Freestyle heaven, maybe its the NSW Naxos or the Bonaire near Bomaderry.

Yes it did get quite busy back in the 90's. I've been camping there every year for the last twenty years and apart from a couple of locals and the odd other camper I generally am the only windsurfer over January.
Great place for beginners as it is shallow, not at the moment though.

Ah, I finally figured it out. I went and took a look there last time I was down that way for a southerly. It certainly didn't look that inviting, so its good you guys tried it out.

It's just a GoPro2 attached with a standard curved GoPro mount to the top of my Gath, I also have a Flymount for boom and mast shots.

Hey gh

I thought at first that it was Smiths Lake but at the beginning I don't remember that much weed bed and also at about 3.36 there is a marker in the water that doesn,t look familiar unless they put one in it since last year so with those two obsevations more so the later one I don't think it is Smith Lake.

So gh will you be camping at Smiths Lake this Jan, if so I will definitely see you on the water like last Jan.

Kind Regards
Walt

and here I was thinking that windsurfers are the caring/sharing type. Seems just the same as surfies and other narrow minded groups re secrets. Will more polies still the wind out of each other sails.? will the place suddenly get overrun and unsailable? ah well have fun and enjoy your spot in the sun and hopefully lot's of wind

Don't take it too seriously. Its only a joke, the secret stuff. Unlike surfing, windsurfing is usually better with a bunch of people out there with you.

If you really want to know where this is check out the GPS Challenge site.

Not worried about it getting overrun as it can hold heaps of sailors, It would be good to see it full of sails, the problem most people are going to have is the depth. If you run anything bigger then a 23cm fin you are going to be in trouble. In some spots I'm fully lit in about 30cms of water, when you skip through some sections you can feel your fin cutting through the sand. It's waist deep or more in the middle but to get out there you must first get through the shallows, The best sailing is on the shallow sand flat. We've been told it works in a NE wind as well, next time a Nor'easter is on we are going to check it out. The only other problem would be the dropping water level, It's a few cm shallower then the last time we went(about a week ago)....Unless there is more rain it would become un useable real quick.

Not saying the name is part of the mystique, If you still want to know and can't work it out from the hints just PM me and I'll spill then beans...But mums the word ok

Looks to be nice, I will have to find out where it is for the holidays.
I am a bit sick of sailing on small Narrabeen lake.

I was surprised by your harness lines. I am probably an "old school", but I have never seen the loop fixed on one attachment only. Is it really better ?
It must be hard to adjust to the right spot compared to having two a bit more spread apart.

Keef, maybe you and Jase can rent a front end loader next time there is almost no water and make a few speed trenches?

Isn't there a sailing club there as you drive in? What do they sail in if its that shallow? or doesn't anyone sail there?

Canton Beach is pretty good in a southerly with flat water and consistent wind. Only problem is the foul stinking weed floating in thick clumpss

Its not secret and its not that crowded.

I like em, I've only ever seen one other person using them and he owns the shop where I bought them. I find them much easier to find that sweet spot...easier then having 2 points to worry about. I only use them on sails up to 6.2 anything bigger and I use normal lines as they feel more balanced then the single point lines. I did find them hard to get use to but now I'm hooked on them, even when I use normal lines they are only about 10cm apart or closer. They seem to give me full control of power, instant power on and off....really good in over powered conditions.

dale they used to have a catamaran, aqua bikes & paddle and windsurfing hire there on the northern end until about 25years ago, the lake was full until about nov last year and the surfers opened it up and it emptied to form a sand bank, its just starting to come back so let's hope for a bit of rain, ill keep you posted
