I did manage to hit bottom at planing speed in front of the wave and lose 2 wave fins, so wave riding can be costly. Pb too.
Toeside top turns drive me 20' inside down the wave, so heelside bottom turns are sometimes made in 18" of water, rocks were just waiting to gobble up my fins.
G/f's cousin, a long time surfer, said spray was waist high.
