I'm pretty heavy, so whilst the fish will paddle into most waves, I have tended to drag the 9.1 out when it's waist high or smaller (or fattish waves).

It's a completely different style of surfing, which helps mix it up. I do like the glide on take-off a mal gives, and it's always a good feeling doing a slowed down, drawn out move and making it...

I've just ordered the new 2012 model of the 7S SuperFish XL X2 in epoxy - 7'3". They've tweaked the shape up quite a bit, and not having ridden an epoxy before I'm quite keen to feel the difference.

One of the best surfs I ever had was about 2 years ago, Tea Tree Bay, dead low, on my own, sunny, glassy clean, and 1-1.5 foot faces, and 200m+ rides. There's no way you would have ridden a shortie for more than 15 metres that day.

And the reverse.

One of the worst surfs had was on a mid north coast point break.

Pushing my eight year old son on a soft board on to 1 to 2 feet waves and watching him go for about 150m.

Me trying to ride a short board and getting maybe 10 metres.

Watching guys on long boards having so much fun.

Never falling for that one again and invested in a 9'1

Surf what works best for the waves and dont be greedy
