Crowd funding - great idea. Friends of mine used this mob for a project: www.pozible.com/

Crowd Funding does work to an extent depending on the $$ that need to be raised. I helped fund Talon Clemow's new movie due out later this year - Thundercloud. I think it was $50 or so and if the target was reached there was a free download once the movie is released and a print : www.pozible.com/project/173959

This one seemed to work well as there was something in it for the person donating.

Shark shield gets $300000 to continue development why not Dave's shield???

Bloody good question, the mind boggles. They choose an out of state piece of crap over something functional. That sux...& when are they going to kill some damn sharks. Apparently a huge ones cruised through the local a couple of times since I've been away. Had so many sightings of these supposedly endangered mongrel things the last few months. Was good to hear Taj was speaking out about being scared to surf his hometown waves coz things are just getting ridiculous.

Gotta say though, at least Colin's mob are actually possibly maybe going to eventually do something. Not like Mark Mcgowan promising to build some fricken pools down the beach. First time I ever voted Liberal in my life simply for that...

But yeah, I do hope the surf safe gets some funding sooner than later.

Mick, while you were away there was one cruising through your local but first spotted only 200m off the most popular beachie in town. The story was a boat was out the back telling all to get out of the water, some did but heaps didn't. Do we need a few drumlines?

Surfed southwest lately , or somewhere not patrolled by red and yellow flags or a big helicopter?

Yep coincidentally and I will not mention such a spots name so I can keep it relatively uncrowded! Did not phase me even if I was the only one out at dawn Each to their own and I'm not in the mood to drag this out to a 5893 page thread! Lets atleast band together and hope Katana gets the recognition he deserves!

I'd like some for sure, had many sightings just in the last few months. Guy circled on a waveski, biggons sighted twice under the local bridge, guy caught one off the groin just before Chrissy & that huge one hanging around recently which was seen a couple of times within a few days.....the more drumlines in the water the better in my opinion. I'd like things to be as they were when I was growing up surfing through the 80's/90's. If I remember correctly there was not one shark fatality in WA within those decades. It all began after we protected Great Whites based upon fisherman stating they were not seeing them as frequently. These days you have tossers asking where the research is to show that drumlines will make a difference. I'd suggest they resit a course in basic mathematics with an emphasis on statistics

Planning on buying a 6'2 Katana Skud with a surf safe unit within the next 8 weeks & getting one installed on my longboard. Try & reduce the chances a bit more coz I tend to surf the local on my own a lot through winter.

Actually there was two in the 90's and but before that we have to go back to 1967 Jurien Bay..

In the 90's there was 11 recorded attacks and 2 fatal in 1997 a windsurfer of Geraldton and 1995 of Hopetown.

I just shared it because i looked it up and found it interesting. It certainly confirms opinion..

Actually that should read 1967..But yes i see your point and i should say i agree. We obviously are dealing with more Sharks in WA water today. But that still doesn't mean that is a representation of the world Great White shark population. It just mean that more are in this area then ever before..

IMHO..

Having said all that, i wonder if anyone has any idea on somewhere we can try and get stat's on people using our waters daily. For instance back in the 80's how many surfers were out at each break, compared to today numbers? WOuld it be double? Im really not sure..

Your thinking of Bryn Martin JB...Ken Crew was taken in front of witnesses.
sharkattacksurvivors.com/shark_attack/viewtopic.php?t=1163

However there was pretty strong evidence of shark attack, even if there were no witnesses

"-October 10, 2011: Perth businessman Bryn Martin, 64, disappeared while swimming off Cottesloe Beach. His shredded swimming costume was later found."

^NP I would expect very few people to have all the names memorized...I just had a check because I was pretty sure there was evidence to suggest shark attack involved with the swimmer at Cot who you were obviously referring to...
