I have it on good authority from a shark expert that sharks will hang around for days at the same spot if they find somewhere they like.

Apparently the issue with the ocean reef one is that fisheries are refusing to disclose if it is the same shark or different ones that is triggering the receiver several times. As far as I understand these receivers are very unsophisticated and only set off an alert if the shark is within 200-300m I think. My question is why are the WA state gov not investing in the more advance gps technology trackers which would enable us to do so much more to learn about this amazing species. However, they were unable to tag a single GWS on a 6 month tagging programme and then they come up with that crazy cull if within 50m of a swimming area policy! Talk about a knee jerk reaction. We need research to learn about their movements and habits here in WA in order to develop an effective strategy to deal with them, end of.

You can't eat white shark meat.

As for people losing their businesses because of sharks...I'm not even remotely convinced. I am more likely to believe people's businesses fail due to poor management/planning than because there are sharks near our beaches.

oops wasn't our dive shop but was our local dive shop thats been doing well for years, then bam can't even give gear away

Haha, yeah cause Great Whites never go where there is another Great White. Oh, hang on what's this.

I recon that might have been a killer whale. Whites will hunt and eat small whites, that has come up before. I think that if they can smell a dead shark eg blood and guts etc they dont like that and will stay away from the smell. Well thats the theory anyway. I read that on the internet so it must be true

That's a male shark in that photograph. I've seen it before but know nothing about it's back story. Wouldn't surprise me too much if it was a male on male attack...then again, maybe the shark was entangled in a net or hooked on a line and another shark decided to make use of the situation.

It happened of Stradbroke Island a few years ago, thats about as much as know about the story.

The bite radius doesn't match what you would expect from an orca.
It is a fairly wide bite, like what you might expect from a larger shark. Orcas have very narrow skulls.

Good point mate, I agree.

You're right as to the location doggie and as I understand it there was a 5-6 metre white hanging in the area at the time this occurred.
