surfsafe.net.au/ is the link to the new site ,thanks for all the support
after 18 months of r&d the first inbuilt shark deterrent is finally on the market. there was heaps of trials and testing with the positioning of the unit including having it removable and this was the most simple and cost effective for commercialisation on my budget .which blew out substantially!
I tried universities and govt state and federal depts for help with research but to no avail .I will keep trying but they seem to have there own agenda.
I started out after the fatality at wedge aiming to produce a product that was better suited surfers and gave a constant field around the surfer wether paddling sitting or surfing.
myself and my friends have been surfing/testing offshore in high risk locations with this product for more than 12 months and strongly believe in it .
I am continuing to develop the product and self funded research while the govt refuse to help ,maybe some day they will ,there are so many views on this topic but hopefully this product can be part of the solution .

Good onya Dave, nice to know the product is not part of some money making scheme and used by locals in local breaks - will be looking into it for sure.

AND ctngoodvibes????? Does it feel like a tingly shower tap not earthed correctly?

It gives ya a good boot! put it thatway. The only time it's normally happens is when I pick up the board to get out of the water after a surf and forget that the unit stays on for a short time even once out if the water. Hardly ever get a boot when surfing. I reckon it's nice to know its working anyway.

I find the unit only runs for a few second after removed from the water .

Quote from the website:

"The electric current generated by SURFSAFE affect the Ampullae of Lorenzini found in the nose area of sharks making it extremely unpleasant to be around. Extensive testing has been carried out with predatory sharks with outstanding results."

Katana, I've seen the short vid on your site repelling the shark but I would like to see more footage of the testing with different sharks.

Can you put some more footage up please?

Would the ultimate test be to tow a board with a shark device on it and a buster doll (from Mythbusters) lying down with arms and legs dangling through shark alley at slow speed to see if a white would hit it ?

Is there any data around on how many attacks on surfers from Whites are at full speed and which ones are curious ones kind of cruising up and having a bite?

The west website has a story today about sharks hanging around commerical fishing boats, with great video. One of the skippers has a high profile (Al Bevan), surely someone on here knows him? I know on the fishing forums people know him. Take a board out and throw it over the side where the sharks are gulping down the undersized crays being thrown back, see what happens.

Have you tried on whites yet Dave? I know testing with whites would be much more difficult but it would be great to see the results.

this atracting thing is a joke. the current flows out of one probe straight through the water into the other probe. The field is 8m max so it doesn't attract sharkies.

what attracts sharks is people burleying up the water we use. everyboat in the ocean has some sought of signal coming out. the sharks go to boats as they are used to them not because of a signal.

so many plonkas so little time

I guess this is mainly directly at katana. As you have tried getting funding from the uni's and gov dept without any success.

Is it worth trying any mining companies that would like to get behind it. I would think it would be a great marketing tool for the company to get behind it. Or if anyone on seabreeze could help with this.

I purely started this thread to get more info and awareness of the device - after reading up on it I will certainly be placing a order early in the new year for one.

I certainly would not mind making a donation to help further testing and trials on the device.

I am sure alot of surfers (not only on this site) would not mind either. Small donations will all add up. Instead of one person (katana) lets all get involved.

cheers

Id maybe re think that one. I new guy who did just that with a product. After helping with testing they challenged the patient and he had an amazing product. He managed to still walk away with just under $3 million, but the product is worth $100's of millions

IPA thats a great idea. For me i guess we could all just buy one, that way we would get money to the product, help spread the word faster by getting product out there, It would also help with more in field testing. It sounds like a win win.

I noticed the shark shield dudes are doing a bit of crowd sourcing on an Internet site for a new device they are trying to get up. Could be worth trying this method. I don't have the link but I know some of the mullaloo longboarders have been asked to contribute.

I was really excited about these devices, but alas I have a heart condition so apparently I shouldn't use one, my only hope is that in the event of an attack my heart sh1ts itself real quick :(

Finally pulled the board out of the bag this morning. A couple of crew commented on the nice glass job on the Surfsafe.
Thanks Dave.

(Unfortunately didn't get it into the water, blown out where I was).

Doesn't help me surf any better,,, damn $# ! ,, but feel a lot better, surfing badly...,

Only time I felt it, was when I entered the water and checked to see if it was operating,,,,, it was!

Its a beautiful thang!

No dramas according to Scrooba,, but doesn't just seem local, does it..?

Marine Scientists have labelled it "Global Pelagic Swarming".

,, the new "GPS" ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,or Global Swarming for short..

Anyway, looks like Surfsafe will be global, shortly,,,, Go Dave !

Actually they have had two fatalities this year. One was taken of a SKI. Thing is its been happening for some time over there as well. Its just not of interest to many locals as it doesn't concern them perennially..

They say on average around 6 fatalities a year world wide from sharks..
