New to the forum but have been reading a bit on here about the shark device.

I cannot find much info on it. Is there somewhere I can read more about it or see any tests that have been done.

I have one. I have also used shark shield surf and katanas is way better and less than half the price. I reckon they are the go.

I have a mate of a mate who does commercial diving in a team.

They believe the shark shields actually attract sharks to the area as they are inquisitive, but then are repelled when close. Potentially putting people around you in jeopardy??

Nearly two weeks ago, I was abalone diving off of the California coast in an area known for Great Whites and attacks. I have had several encounters with GWs in the past so I purchased a Sharkshield and mounted it inside my dive tube with the tail going through a hole in the bottom of the tube. In the middle of our trip a large white, about 18' came straight at me, it was viewed by the people in the boat, not me. They warned me about the shark, I thought it was farther away from me than it was so I continued diving. they eventually said the shark had left the area, I had great confidence in my safety because I knew my shield was on and working and that there has never been an attack on a person with a Shark Shield. Later I found out that the shark came within 3 meters of me and the shield and then made a left turn to avoid the shield. Just wanted to say thanks.

Dont get me wrong.... I still want one! Particularly if other people in the area are unknowingly attracting the buggers!

The bulk of the evidence surrounding the death of Peter Clarkson (R.I.P. Feb 2011) indicates that this statement is not true. Nonetheless, rather than engaging in often fruitless pursuits of sharks following an attack, Fisheries would perhaps do better by allocating resources toward field(ocean)-testing of Dave K's innovative device.

Daves system is completely different. I like it because of that exact reason. It doesn't first attack them in. I really like his system and if i surfed down south or offshore i would get it straight up..More than likely still will

I like surfing that area,, and was there 2-3 weekends ago in small mush. Told to get out of the water by spearfishing guys who left due to 'a very agro 12ft tiger' swimming 100mtrs away..
despite having my opinion about spearfishing not helping,,
its too regular, and persistent there, (especially whale migration season)
I'm thinking (my wife even more so) prefer to take my chance in that area with a shark deterrent, even without the above guarantee.

And it works out to be about $1 per surf. Put that way how stupid would it be not to get one Now just to decide which board though

What would be cool is a quick release system for the shield. So you'd only have to buy one unit, but have the fittings in the bottom of all the boards in your quiver so it is quick and easy to swap the shield between boards.

Yeah but i think the system works with a wire running through the board. SO you really can't have that open it really needs to be installed once..I guess it would add value when you sell your boards on

^ It would be awesome to have one built into a detachable surfboard fin. But looking at the design it looks like you need a length of wire or something running a couple of feet or so up the middle of the board in order to send out the deterent frequency or whatever the terminology is...The Hawaiian ESDS is about this size, but also under investigation by the US government after the US Navy claimed their testing shows it does not have the field or perimeter of protection the manufacturer clams it to have. My friend finds he has to wear booties to prevent shocking himself with his...& the South Oz product is even worse unless your riding a 10 foot Mal or 666.

I've always thought an electronic shark deterrent could be built into a leg rope to isolate the subsequent shock you get when you come into contact with the thing...But Dave has done this by creating a product which remains under the water sending out those gethefarkaway from me signals & for what appears to be a very reasonable price point considering the cost of the oppositions products. The design also does not shock,hinder or restrict a surfers surfing session which is a major advantage.



Go Dave, looks awesome mate...I've been telling the boys down here about them & they're impressed by the design...looking forward to getting one built into my new skud next April

Not wanting to bag any product, but as i said i really like the Surfsafe product, it is designed to work weather moving or sitting still. The SS needs for the antenna to sink into the water to work. When you then surf it lifts up and trails the board to stop any interference. SO i could be wrong, but if a big fishy was swimming around me and the urge to paddle rather fast was there, would i not render my expensive repellent devise useless..

Also the shark shield surf unit is very annoying to surf with....but with the surf safe unit you barely know its there. Dave's unit is a giant step forward for surfers and I look forward to the day when you can click in your surf safe unit just like fcs. Until then using the two boards I have it on is good enough for me.

I think the real question is, have you touched both electrodes yet
