I hope the tape's waterproof, doggie. This construction doesn't like holes.

Board looks a bit big for current conditions. Dimensions? Looks like a 6'8".

Yep waterproof will be fixed on the weekend.

6,4 x 18 13/16 x 2 1/2 similar to the board I swapped with.

Best I've surfed in a long time, very responsive and easy to paddle. So light as well.
It's the best single concave board I've ever surfed, I don't like them generally?!?

That would be VERY upsetting... particularly as they are not a cheap board...

I like the idea of using carbon fibre strips to design specific flex patterns. It seems so much simpler than composite layups. I hate the idea of snapping one though - I haven't snapped carbon anything but I've read a few scary stories.

One thing I do know is the composite guys struggle more with too much stiffness rather than too much flex. And working out ways to reduce stiffness is a battle. I wonder how stiff a board with carbon rails and carbon strips would be?

I don't like your dms guy's "patent pending" thing though. I hate the whole patent system. A strip of carbon tape makes a patent? Stupid. I get that he would want to make a few bucks though.

I do like wood. In other sports equipment wood just has a nice, repeatable, "organic" flex and twang. Not sure if my reaction time is quick enough for CF. Wood seems to flow nicely for me.

The carbon wrap, answer to various questions as above.

As legion said above, many composite sandwich epoxy boards make them too stiff. What people like about the 'feel' of PU is that it has a natural flex. If you think of the profile of a regular board the main backbone of that board being the stringer reduces in thickness towards the nose and tail meaning that it flexes more in those areas by virtue of less resistance from the stringer.

Enter the parabolic rail concept via Bert - FireWire - fibre Flex. FireWire also has reducing thickness of rail stringer towards the nose and tail. Fiber Flex on the other hand while feeling lively and light has a piece of carbon tape of uniform width from nose to tail. This means almost uniform flex end to end. Feels good but does not satisfy everyone.

Enter the carbon wrap. What it does is control the flex of the board from the nose towards the tail where it wraps over the rail onto the deck. It does this just in front of the fins and in between your feet. What this does is gradually allows the tail to flex while the rest of the board is held stiff. This creates a POP out of turns that feels amazing. The projection feels like nothing I have felt before. Under the front foot it feels solid, under the back it has life.

The patent thing is due to the amount of boards in the past couple of years that have for through to get to where it is now. Nobody spends that much on development and does not protect it, especially when 2 of his good mates are lawyers.

I love both of mine and it's time to order some good wave boards with it also.

Would you take it to Indo Doggie? I have 2 FW's and love them but looking to get a board for PNG next year, I'm a bit concerned the FW's are a bit light!

I would not think it would be a problem. Taj tackles te big stuff on his (ok he is not yr normal surfer and could have weight added tot hem if he wanted) but I have seen plenty of blokes out in reasonable sized surf on them. Indo is full of nice clean waves so I reckon it would be fine. Mine goes fine in windy conditions over here on the East.

Yep sure would, it is light but it didnt surf like a light weight board. I would be interested how other constructions go after riding that.

The pics a few years old. In the end FireWire replaced the board and I just had to pay for delivery. Although they wouldn't admit it, my theory is it was a part of a dodgy batch of boards they produced early on. The replacement board is still going strong and I love it.

It looks like they forgot to glass it. Never have I seen Divinycell and balsa break so neatly. There was definitely something faulty with this one.

If it was glassed there would be at least some buckling or some wayward strands of cloth remaining as it broke. This is the weirdest break I have ever seen.
