They are only waves and there will be another one coming so I dont get the way some guys get worked up.

As to the crowd factor we really need to find a relatively low cost way to catch some of the lateral sand drift and make more banks in metro Perth.

Groynes have to much impact as they build up sand to south and scour to the north on the WA coast.

Surely something say 100m out could be anchored to catch sand.

From Swanbourne to Triggs we could have quality waves with some investment.

When you take the number of watercraft users it is no different to investing in footy ovals etc

hey katana, a few temporary WAD type ideas cross my desk as well... would love to know if you collected much pre and post data or attempted to document your trial at all. there is an artifical surf reef / surf science symposium thing in puerto rico i think next Feb that has folk that would froth on any info you have stored from the attempt. might be a little "tax write off" trip for you possibly to present/discuss it? would be a sweet little junket - PM if you need me to head over on your behalf

otherwise had did you go for approvals etc, or was this all unofficial?

would love to see what impact digging out a semi circle of sand with excavator and putting it to the side has and if it would create a bank.

If you watch a straight beach it still gets dips and almost circular motion going.

I often wondered if a little tampering could assist creating a channel and rip effect and create a left or right or maybe both.

To date it seems the waves where it was decided to attempt to create a wave have been limited in success. The best waves such as sand spit santa barbara which is the result of a harbour and is a by product.

Crazy backwash but still an amazing wave

from what i remember the engineers said that only lasts about 1-2 days depending on wind/swell/tides they got the same effect using a slurry pump in NZ. you have to have a structure that keeps the scouring and deposits consistent.

Anyone else noticed there is some really unseasonal erosion along the coast at the moment? I just arrived home after a month away and cannot believe the amount of erosion and yet the large amount of weed still around the place. At Dawesville, the trap is full already, like really, really full. Anyone know if the plan is to pump out the trap this year?
