Before this latest death, many people here in Bali were commenting on the shark problem in Australia. In light of the chilling frequency of the type of tragedy that occurred today at Wedge, it seems that measures need to be taken to reduce GWS numbers in coastal areas of WA. Indeed, it is within reason, both politically and scientifically, to argue that wide-spread culling may be appropriate.

Rest In Peace
My only hope was that it was over quickly.

I was in the water when it happened 50m away and I am still freaking. I want to thank the guy on the ski (who in my opinion is deserves a bravery medal) who raced over and got my two friends and myself out. RIP. I never want to go through anything like this again for the sake of my wife and 3 month old boy.
I don't care about what all you 'save the sharks' people think. Something has to to be done about this issue!!

at whites don't have natural enemies, so they are eventually going to overpopulate. Something needs to be done.

Rest in Peace waterman. Much respect to Jets ski guy. You are a great man.
I planned a trip with 3 keen non surfers to lano to push them into a few, but pulled the pin from double booking. We are all deeply shaken. We are all in this.

RIP mate. Hope it was quick and you got a few good punches in to the bugger...
and good on the jetski guy. I hope that if I was ever in that situation that I would have the courage to act the same way he did. Truly an inspiration.

Surely something needs to happen about these shark attacks though, they are getting ridiculous. Makes me feel a bit iffy about surfing in WA now, and kinda makes me want to shell out for a shark shield.
