Thanks GPA. Ive got a mate who insists i try his soft board im reasonably fit and swam alot in school that was 2 years ago tho so the arms aren't as efficient anymore. Either way you've backed up the advice ive had so far. I think i need a bigger board for the weight just to get up. Then later if i do any good and still want to surf lash out on something more expensive. but at the moment i just want something big enough for cheap to get me started.

7'3" 7S SuperFish XL I'm 110kg and it holds us no worries, check out profile pic or go see Wilkes behind Singleton servo, does a Pig board for the larger bloke or Del Rosso.

Yes - by all means - borrow a mates if you can... borrow from as many mates as you can...

Just know that soft-boards are not known for their performance... even the way they glide through the white water is massively different... so if you are relatively happy on a 7'6" soft-board - the fibreglass ones will really please you.

If you use the search function on this forum you'll find a heap of info for beginners - doggie, 62mac, myself and others have answered a number of questions from beginners...

There's probably 80yrs experience between us three alone!!

G'day Baba... is your 7S PU or epoxy? I have the PU model and got up to 112kg and had no issues with it...

Nah - I'll admit to owning a 9.1 McT for the summer grovel - but I can't see the appeal of an SUP... certainly not in Perth metro...

Hi GPA,
I found myself in a similar situation, I'm 59yr and surf a lot in Sydney in the 60's, Deewhy, Freshwater, Manly.
I've been distracted for the last 25years and wanted to get back in the water.
I looked at designs that would allow me to ride short boards,Fire Wire and similar with ease in paddling. I'm 5'8 and weigh 75kg, I happened to speak to a friend who required the same specifications and had just bought a new board, which ticked all the boxes, that board was a Bourton, designed and shaped buy Murray Bourton or Muzz as everyone knows him by. The board is the Fat Bullet, I bought the 6'6 but could have gone shorter, I suggest you may like to take a look, Good luck with your search.
