For me, it's the love of having something well crafted and hand made. There is something about meeting the person making your board and seeing it crafted or the result of hours of labour and effort that fills my quiver.
Surfboards seem to be one of the last things we have left where there are still amazing handcrafted objects of beauty.

Improve hmmmm , tell me about the major improvement in board design in the last five years that has helped you.
Nothing new in design but a few changes in what I ride
Went from dedicatated thrusters to riding quads...now surfing faster and looser than ever
Reduced the of toe in and spread the fin cluster
...Like I said its all about improvement sometimes its incremental some times it happens in giant leaps...some time you have to go back and revisit stuff that didn't work previously
I think(i don't speak for everyone here) it's a self satisfaction thing.You've worked hard or put in the hours to reward yourself with something that you love doing as a hobbie,sport,pastime,etc rather than waste your money at the club pokies,etc.We all love a new board as much as any other sporting people like new equipment for whatever they do.Personally I keep my boards until they're just about had it,I try to get as much as I can out of them,if they go good for me. Besides the fact I can't really afford a new one every 6 months or so Cant wait to get the new 10 footer though
