I was toastie warm today, 21 degree air in July... That's warm for here. Water was 16 but warm as in a sealed 3/2. My feet didn't evening go numb, doesn't feel like winter at all. .

If I was up the coast further I'd go a 2/1 s short sleeve steamer, in super stretch! Sealed, etc..
a good one.
Or I have a couple of longsleevespring suits that are good to.

How did you go with yours Ted?

Edit haha mac is getting reds for his comment... Why.. .?

Its really only the windy overcast cooler days that we need a steamer up imo,I've surfed a few winters with just a jacket.

Yeh Taz - I agree light as possible...thanks all..

Heated vest in Queensland...I don't think I could even respect myself if I bought one of them and pulled it out in the carpark.....

I am just getting cold with the current springie (sore jaw after a couple of hours is the tell tale sign for me haha westerlies or not - and no I don't talk that much in the surf). It is an older one - no glue and blind stitching on my current one.

2mm jacket in July ....not for me.....hahaha

The Mrs just scored me a 2/2 sealed short arm Bomb pro plus chest zip Rip Curl and without doubt it's the most comfortable suit I have ever worn. $450 a pop, if you don't want to spend the dough DO NOT try it on.

Same Mac, I replaced the 5 year old Bomb. The liquid tape on the inside was peeling and sticking into me a bit, still a perfect suit other than that. Cannot recommend Rip Curl enough. Most people will tell you apart from the super high end stuff in Japan there are only 2 wetsuit companies, The Curl and Oneill. They source the best materials and lock them up, a few years later the rest get it.

i've had a fair few wetsuits in my time. a lot of ripcurls bomb thingies. however i found i was replacing them nearly every season. worn out, lost it stretchiness

changed over to the billabong solution. the ones with the yellow teri towelling inside them. well they used too- been a long time. been using my 2/2 for 5 years now. my 3/2 doesn't get used much now that i'm spending more time standing up. its 5 years old too. warmest wettie i've ever had and i feel the cold. a mate of mine is shocker and the solution was his, well, final solution.

btw, i'm sure the water not as cold as it used to be in qld

Its been sent back to the manufacturer and I am waiting to hear from them. It only went late last week in the end as I did not want to be with out a wettie given the run of swell we had been having. I picked up a O'Neill Psycho 2 for a VERY reasonable price on-line - under $270 delivered - so I waited for that to arrive before sending the other one off. The new one is not as flexi as the other one - but you do not really notice it as the Psycho 2 is a quality suit - but it is a touch a warmer which is nice. I will advise what they say as soon as I hear.

I was going to add if you need a heated vest in Qld it might be time for a teaspoon of concrete in your morning coffee , but thought it might be a bit rude since it's only your 1 st week on board .

Ok I am not going to name names here but I brought a new wettie last winter and it was great...but its now falling apart and only 13 mths old. I wash it in fresh water after almost every use but the lining has just completely gone this w/e. Not happy.

Ok well its time to name names but I have decided against it - however let me state that the great people at this very large surf brand based in Victoria have sent me a brand new replacement wetsuit. Stoked. A pleasure to deal with and they clearly noted that the suit had not stood the test of time as it should of and have hence decided to replace it. My faith in the big giant is restored.

Glad to hear you got it sorted Ted.

At the risk of further hyjacking Ted's thread........I got myself an Xcel 3/2 long sleeve steamer a couple of weeks back and wow it's warm, very happy so far after a couple of outings. My old suit wasn't sealed and very inflexible, so this new one is amazing in its flexibility and keeping the warmth in...

For the record I most definitely did not get a heated vest hahaha
