If you're in Victoria then its probably a good idea to check out Note surfboards.
There is a trade off though if you want that style of board. It will run, trim and noseride better than your standard tri setup but will really only be good to ride in small clean conditions. If you havent ridden this type of board they take a while to get used to.If you're only 77kg you shouldnt need to go beyond 9'4.
I'm 90 kg and my log is 9'6 and thats plenty. Here is mine. The green one belongs to my nephew.

Here's another shot to show how flat it is. 3x 8 ounce volane and weighs a ton too.

What is it about that style of board that just looks so bloody awesome, I cant really explain it. Have never ridden one but they look so cool. Love the colour scheme. Need to save some pennies and get one (or two!)

I have a 9'6 F/B and a 9'6 board shaped in Cornwall. The fireball does it all IMO and the other one is for when its smaller and fatter.

My F/B has more dents in it than I would like to admit and I have creased it before but as soon as the waves are good I always go back to it cant get enough of it. Didnt actually know much about them before I bought it as I just went into a L/B shop had a chat to the owner about a board and walked out with a bright red wave catching machine!

It was expensive and I had to save up for it. In small stuff they trim and glide like nothing else but I would never ride it in waves over head high. With the rolled bottom and 50 /50 rails they dont release like a more modern board.
I know a bloke who just recently got a Takayama In the Pink model in glass that noserides really well but also surfs good off the tail. They're not cheap either.

Nice looking board SMH, I don't know much about Note surfboards, are there any Vicco shops that carry Note longboards?

Yes I am looking locally, I've got my eyes on a 2nd hand Jordie Brown 9'2" log.

Need to check with the Chief Financial Officer to see if she'll give me the go ahead!

Loads of boards will "nose ride", and if you are heavier, go for the Hang 5, or just ride up near the nose.

However, you also need the right wave, and the right positioning on the wave.

Refer separate thread.....

I'd love to know how well the ITP Veneer goes conpared to the Glass.
Feels about the same weight as a PU board but still would have the durability of a Tuflight board.
Looks pretty swish too

Merricks I only found out about the Note boards from a film clip Revvin put up that was shot in some really nice looking waves down there. I had a look at the site too and there is some nice boards in there. Another thing to consider is that a heavily glassed board built out of one of those high density blanks will last a long time if you look after it. If you look at mine on the picture you will notice that there is barely a heel dent in it. These types of boards are generally a bit more expensive once you start looking at tints and pigments ect.
Tomayama the guy I know with the In the Pink Tak has also ridden the tufflite model and reckons the glass feels smoother and noserides better . He puts it down to the additional weight of the glass compared to the Tufflite.
Like Simondo said there are loads of boards that will noseride. If you want an allrounder then the modern boards are the go.

McTavish have a good range, which are widely available, and are both a Benchmark, and a starting point.

www.mctavish.com.au/

The Redline is a great starting point. Competent nose rider. Old School Style, but a nice hard edge through the tail, allowing you to bury the rail, and get more drive, and generally surf the board harder, compared to a traditional style board (with soft rails out the tail)
http://boards.mctavish.com.au/boards.asp?modelid=6&storeid=1

The Nose Rider & Noosa 66 are Classic Nose Riders, with softer rails up the back. Authentically reproduced boards. Authentic materials, colours, stringers, etc.
boards.mctavish.com.au/boards.asp?modelid=10&storeid=1
boards.mctavish.com.au/boards.asp?modelid=8&storeid=1

The popular Fireball. Modern, but classic, with side bites. Hard rails at the tail.
boards.mctavish.com.au/boards.asp?modelid=1&storeid=1

The Involement - another of Bob's classic's that has come back to haunt us !!
boards.mctavish.com.au/boards.asp?modelid=39&storeid=1

And the Rincon '68 Dream Machine. A specialty 7'10.

The McTavish boards are very well made too. I know a bloke who has had a fireball for at least 6 years and it still looks pretty good. A good glass job can be overlooked at times. I get my midlength boards well glassed as well.A good rule is that you get what you pay for.

Yeah thats why i was thinkin the heavier veneer wld be the go. The p/u ITP isnt an option for me. just cant bring myself to pay around 2k for a p/u board if the shaper isnt shaping it himself.

Have had a small go on the Epoxy version and it was pretty good. thinking it would give me a board that is WAY different to any of the other boards in my quiver.
have been reading other comments on the weights and how they ride and they are all different.
I guess it depends on how you ride and individual preference.
I guess its win/win whichever i select tho !!!

Tomayama all of the Taks are machine shaped as are many big name high output boards. I wouldnt imagine there would be a great deal of difference between the price of a tufflite and P/U board. I'm pretty sure my mate paid around $1700 for his. Like you said it depends on what you prefer. With the Tufflites you can often get a demo board out and have a go on it and with all the different models you can try out plenty of boards.

Say no more

edit- helmet on

It is true that they do have good glass jobs but I've heard that the GSI are not as solid.

That reminds me, yesterday arvo I walked into dripping wet at Nth Manly and asked the guy if he had any leg rope cords.

He said

"what, you mean for a stand up Paddle"

I said

"Do I look ghay"

He started to piss his pants and and 2 other guys at the counter would not even crack a smile.

Sure enough, when I walked outside there they were getting into a car with a couple of SUPs on top.

BTW, on Friday our bommy awoke from its summer slumbers, not in a big way but just enough for me to test out that 10'6".

And oh what fun it was, I've never moved so fast across that wave face.
