To answer Sepirott's question. Can't really do them that well myself cos of a stuffed lower back/bad flexibility but what works for me is....
For a normal cutback you generally have your back foot across the stringer (at approx 45 to 90 degrees) and dig in your heel to initiate the movement.
For the drop knee the key is to first turn your back foot so it is facing the front of the board (along the stringer or thereabouts) and to have all the pressure on the ball of your foot. Your heel will be in the air.
You also have to lean back and down at the same time so you are right over your back fin. Helps to really bend (or "drop") the back knee down towards the deck too. While you are trying to do all this, it helps to also have your arms spread out (for balance) and to turn your head right around and look back at the whitewater that you are cutting back towards.
Hope this makes sense and works for you too.
(Disclosure: Been a surf coach for 20 years and wish i could surf better than i can teach!). - Mark

I know what you mean there. On a heavy single fin where you pivot turn a forehand cut back you get down low and kind of do a wheelie and swing it around if that makes any sense. Your back foot is facing forward instead of across the stringer and the knee comes down .
There were a few guys in a mal club I used to surf in who did it all the time. One guy used to only ride singles but another guy used to do it on thrusters.
I think it would be easier to master on a big heavy single fin because you pivot turn them but with a driving turn you do on a thruster I dont know how that guy from the club used to do it. Ray Gleaves got a rough idea on how its done.

I started by grabing the inside rail, which helps when you are learning

I am possibly the 2nd best drop knee turner around but there are no vids of me that I know of so I suggest you find vision of Ray Gleave surfing as he is the best executor of the drop knee ever - nobody even comes close and never will AND it has nothing to do with the boards he rides - its pure and natural raw genius.
