I'm just re-posting to get this back on top of the forum again because it has gone so quite that I think people might be madly getting their patents in to secure the first "shaft handle" on the SUP market!
C'mon fess up if cogs are ticking!
No cogs ticking here.
Even Connor only uses that dropped top hand thing about 10% of the time.. The other 90% he uses his paddle the way it's designed to be used.

but, oc paddles used to not have a handle. so when somebody but a handle on top that was ok then

there are times when i use the normal handle and times when i use the grip
the grip is ubeaut for quick sprints, and if the water is choppy and i feel unstable the grip position offers so much more of a controlled body position. the legs and balancing work so much better- much better in rough water surf paddle outs.
in training with mesh mash board wakes it works.
the higher stroke is easy to maintain too if required
the mixing up of muscle groups spreads thework load around
but hey, if people want to close their minds to anything different or new, i'm not worried because i'll know i have an advantage.
however, it does take a little bit of time to get used to it
i have a 27" wide 12'6- no deep deck recess , probably go 26" on the next board now
cheers
