guys,i don't want to make an ordinary board go good- i want a good board. only a dummy would buy an ordinary board and work harder.
i don't see the pros ride ordinary boards even though they can -better than anybody else

as a starboard team rider he doesn't have much choice does he and as i said pros make anything work. but i have a choice- read above

i reckon they are green thumbing dave muir tb. i 'm after peoples opinions on the " best " ordinary board around, not the most ordinary board around. i'm not interested in how good someone is, just made a point about pro's can ride anything, but they will go for the best board, even dave would ride the best board for him in the starboard range-don't think you would you see him out on a whopper

Surely you've learnt something from the many boards that you've had to have a pretty good idea what you want. Or is deciding what you want the hard part??

broadening my horizons yeah deciding is the hard part.

i'm looking at my blue dc8'8 model again- was ok stable and surfed great. the psh 8'9 ripper was a cracker too. probably looking at lsd, jerry and magic carpet too. it's a bit hard to try out something like the one your raving about - sorry forget the name, dtm's boards, laguna bay, panda etc

It could possibly be the 8.10 sitting on my lounge room floor at the moment ? You better come grab it next week and test it out for yourself. As you know I am no fan of sub 9 sups but I gotta tell ya, this one is something I could very much grow to like.

Demo an 8 7 JL Kwad if you can; at 105kg I can ride the 9 1 easy it surfs unreal.

Sh** its cranking I just checked coastalwatch cam.I am now sitting at my desk crying.

Dont worry mate unless you have a jetski , its gunna be tough getting out.There are some pearlers coming through the Alley out wide.I nearly got a couple breaks to get right out back , but to much white water to deal with , plus i was scared Lol.

If your scared then im not going out but I was looking at that secert spot up north one of the points even has your name.have a look at Coatalwatch and you too will cry like a baby

Got out this arvo mate , ****e it was hard work for the two waves i got , Breto and ****e i forgot his name i think its Adrian where out aswell , i seen breto get a few good ones.My first wave was pretty crud but the second was bigUnfortunately i couldnt pull out , rode it out and looked out back and thought **** im not gunna make it out again.So i pulled up stumps , wish i had my old PSH 10'6 that thing was made for those waves , you def need a bit of paddle speed and some extra weight for the big fat bumpy ones.I know suppers get a bad rap but some of those tow in crew have no idea.

So far, definitely the Psh 8'9 Ripper (8’9” x 28 ¼” x 4 1/16”). Perfect blended rocker and outline for its size, paddles well and and more importantly surfs like a short board, fast, loves the pocket,vertical and never loses its speed through turns. Transition from rail to rail is pretty instant without that delayed feeling that I hate. Only surfed it as a thruster, but waiting on a set of quad fins to give that a go! Amazingly, this board will catch ankle high dribble to 6'+ bombs and it just wants to go,the more stick you give it the more it gives back, forget it if you just want to cruz. I have surfed on various Starboards, Naish and other Psh models boards, but the 8'9 is the shizzle for me to date.

9'0 Mana, probably the most magical in the Naish line-up.

9'3 Hokua, could have been better.
8'10 Hokua, good, but not magic.
8'4 Hokua, better, not still not a must own.
9'2 PSH WR nothing special, a bit stiff.
8'6 PSH WR, the most magic of the rippers I've surfed.
8'0 PSH WR, good, but not magic.
7'8 Hokua, pretty hot so far, still new to me.

The 9'0 Mana does everything so well, I'm probably going to buy a second one so I don't have to share with the wife. I don't know anyone who wasn't in love with it on the first try, from women, to men, regardless of the brand they personally own.

better try one first. piros said he struggled with the lack of volume, especially in the tail area because its so thin. you guys look about the same size

Hey Lacey, Comp weight boards never went into production they now only come in Wood Veneer.

I am thinking 8'9 wide ripper for you Teatree. Wazza bought one, hit him up!.
The Wide Rippers surf amazingly well in the big stuff. I have plenty of crew dropping double overhead and stoked on the wide rippers.

As for the 9'2WR being stiff, NC. Play with the fins. At 90kg this is by far my favorite board and will win hands down in the lower 9'+ range, IMO.
A lot of crew prefer riding them as Thrusters, not quads.

If was to ride a Ripper it would be the 8'11, but with my shoulder still half hanging out I am back on my 10'AA catching 2' ers at Gerroa right now. Still fun but!

OK got to go with hilly try the Kwad thats my next board

funny, but you still haven't answer the topic question

i am a brand spanking new at sup but have shortboarded for a long time. bought my son a mc ,he is 11 just to flat water and for me to surf. i think you will find it less than 30 as well. i found the mc to be a little tippy for me, my board much bigger but with a bit of foot adjustment and speed found it really stable. on the wave, well super quick and went into every gouge with a bigger smile. the surf was 2 ft and messy, i was way to quick for the sections. had demo on merrick on flat was heaps more stable yet the shape seems more fun than performance to me.
