I did after a race last year due to terrible paddle technique. I was really pulling back with the bottom arm which worked the bicep. Best thing I did was to get into some outrigging which has really improved my paddle technique.

Almost like a truck has run over my arms, Consistant pain but does go away after a hours rest.

Maybe it could be due to weak shoulders as all tendons etc run through to each point

I was out before, And the swell was quite big I have not been out in such surf before on the sup and i was suprised i made it out the back

Got a wave or 2 but they were soooo fast and heavy i did not last long

All i got for my efforts was a bang on the head and a wack in my front teeth

you are going to need time to get used to it - its called being sup fit. after my first sup surf, i could hardy move next day. listen to your body, you are at a stage where you can injure yourself if you are not careful.
cheers
ps grab that paddle session, save yourself a lot of trouble

I agree, But i have had this pain before kiting but did come and go

I think i need to find a programe that is for sup i.e To make the muscles stronger

Shoulders, wrists etc etc I had shoulder surgery twice but this is not the cause i dont think just time with the paddle as mentioned

Also i love sup so much i am pushing it a bit much i think, But i cant help it i want to be a dolphin

Growing pains. Keep your eyes on it and within a couple of months you should have a bicep.

Maybe lay off the typing of a while.....

In all seriousness, If it persists and is not related to just starting out on the SUP, fitness or poor technique and over use get a book "the trigger point therapy workbook" by Clair Davies. Goes in to great detail on how to self treat soft tissue pain.

Best $35 dollars I have spent oh except for that one time in bangkot

Mate the only reason I can think of for the bicep pain is that you are maybe keeping your top arm a bit too bent during the paddle stroke and going too hard. Try keeping the top arm a bit straighter and relax and stop paddling so hard. You shouldnt feel like you are digging holes with the paddle rather it should be really relaxing and easy and the paddle should just glide down the side of the board and there will be very little strain placed on the arm muscles. If anything you should be feeling sore in your triceps and maybe a little in your deltoids after being in the surf and paddling hard. In all seriousness - spend more time paddling in flat water away from surf and get a good technique and paddle fitness happening before tackling waves of any size otherwise you will get injured - guaranteed.

apart from the fact its probably from spending to much time at your computer talking ****......you do know that the head of your bicep attaches to the point of the shoulder and can be a referred pain from im balance in the muscle groups around the shoulder allowing it to be in a compromised postion. previous shoulder injury could be contributing to this.....

try this link - this is only a sample of things you can do with indian clubs

I've been using indian clubs for about 10months - excellent warm up and conditioning - mixed into circuit training with kettle-bell, swiss-ball, medicine-ball, indo-board & you'll be wondering what all the hype about SUP being a core fitness workout!

P.S. dont forget to stretch - yoga is the best for that

Hey Glass off- have had multiple shoulder surgeries and now have arthritis in shoulder- surgeon recommends Tai chi- but that mainly just works the knees- this club swinging looks more shoulder oriented and decent fun- where can you buy in Australia if you know?

Cheers.

With shoulder surgerys i think its a matter of getting the muscles working again and this can take months and months surgens kill everthing inside

I think you may find even the likes of laird has had surgerys to shoulders etc

I had a look on the net at this book, And i want one it had a demo on some things and its awsome, As i recently broke my ankle in every bone and tore every tendon i found a trigger point that relieved the pain by 90 percent straight way.

Still healing, I find SUP is helping with getting the strength back
