Um, what is your point?

My point is that with time people are becoming more accepting of people on SUP and looking back at the rider, his/her ability and manners rather than the board they ride. You can isolate people based on equipment but in the end it's the pilot not the plane.

One by one more and more of the grumpy guys stop by to borrow a board to 'take the kids paddling in the creek'... These are the same guys giving it to me big time not that long ago. "aaah those things are for kooks, you wouldnt catch me dead on one"... I just say now 'hey make sure you don't try it then eh, just the kids'.

I have had a go on one and that was enough for me, in saying that I saw a vid that dog man did and I was impressed how he moved it around in the slop.
There are not many people in Perth that can ride them with any sort of skill that I have seen. The only reason that I look here is that I like looking at pictures of the gear/boards some of the designs are very good.

Going to the wrong beaches Doggie a few guys in Perth and especially down south are ripping. Have you seen Courts and Jacko.

They are guys from down south arnt they, na I havnt but I have seen people that rip on them, its just not my kind of ripping.
Ive also seen footage of SUPs getting into Backdoor, awsome stuff but always looks like the boards want get out to the shoulder instead of staying in the pocket.
At the end of the day Im not trying to say SUPs should be banned or restricted ect thats not my deal at all, I just dont understand the stand up bit. I mean they are just oversized mals really, and you guys should be taking off outside the mals with the volume and paddle power.

You gotta laugh

We must be total opposites then doggie,
because I just don't understand the lie down paddle bit,
why lie down when we've got legs to stand up on?

I'm still laughing.

You have to lie down to paddle a shortboard. And shortboards just turn a lot better than longboards or SUPs. I like to do quick manoeuvers, and you can't do the sorts of things I like doing on a SUP, not that I've seen.

doggie mentioned dogman, yeah, he posted an OK video of him SUPing recently. But it's a poor comparison to another I saw of him on a shortboard before (?) he took up SUPing. He was ripping on that vid IIRC, but not so much on a SUP (well, yes compared to the average SUPer, but not compared to an average shortboarder). Don't you miss riding like that dogman? I realise you all love the quantity of waves you can catch, but it seems like you've sacrificed quality for quantity.

I hope lots of people don't get it as I love my solo sup's at outer reefs and less popular breaks up north and down south. You gotta laugh :-)

funny thing is i dont really miss it that much as i dont really ride my shortboards unless its nuking wind and im crankin down the line lit up like hindenburg air ballon gettin skull dragged by my kites and laying a few pies on rail which i recon is heaps more fun

all my mates bag the crap out of me solidly about only riding my sups and kiting my shortboard to death

but to me its all about havin fun on whatever you ride

but then again in saying that i just watched that old vid of me surfin a "shortie" a few days ago with a mate and i laughed

Damon & Courts are not the only ones ripping down south plenty more Julian & the Jacko brothers just to name a couple. Not sitting in the pocket Maye you need to get down south were the real waves are.

Now here's my point, Perth is that crap what the hell are you still doing grovelling around on a shortboard Any real waterman worth his salt has both a sub and a shortboard and rips on both .

Cmon fella's get with the times your missing out big time flopping & grovelling around on a 6 2 " x 18" x 2 1/4 " wafer, save that for six ft norths when its on

A kook is a kook is a kook, no matter what board there on.

Not a chance.

I'd spend more time down south if I had a lazy 5 acre block down there or knew someone who did ... hang on a minute ...

... waterman ...

Doesn't that word make you cringe? It makes me cringe and I'm not even applying it to myself/my sport.

That's correct Legion and as the history of evolution states [shown below],
the lie down paddler fails to rate a mention,
so I guess its the way of the dinosaur for you old mate, extinct.
