Thanks guys. All really good information and suggestions.
I called into a dive shop yesterday and came across Sharkskin by Polartec. It's material but apparently the equivalent of a 2.5-3mm wetsuit. Outer layer has 4-way stretch and UV protection, inner membrane is wind and waterproof, and the the internal fleece is 'itch free and odour free' (though the way you boys are talking, I doubt it) and non-chafing. Breathes to help with overheating, and wicks moisture away from the skin. Can be worn under a wetsuit or on it's own. Anyway, it looked and felt good (though I didn't try in on), and I thought I might check it out.
Anyone tried them?
I've got a product that's quite similar by Probe wetsuits. Long pants that are fleece lined. I have a top as well but I find it gets too hot. In my experience stand up paddling, the heat is all in the torso, so as long as my hands and feet and legs stay warm, I can have a rashy on my top half even in the coldest part of winter.
