While re-watching her race on tele this morning from last weekend's Ironman race at Newcastle, an ironwoman friend (who also SUP surfs and races) noticed this thing at 11.25min mark.

What do you reckon it is ?? Skip to 11.25mins and look at the top left of screen !! Bloody big whatever it is when you compare it to the size of the paddlers !!!

Its probably what you think - there are lots in the neighbourhood around these parts. The stretch north of Newcastle is a well known cursing ground for our friends in the grey suits.

I watched that 10 times going 'I can't see anything in the bottom left' then I read your post. Aaaaah, the top left.

Looked almost more like a killer whale or similar than a dolphin. Unless the chemical plant leaks in Newcastle breed mutant dolphins?? Haha.

I didnt watch but There has been a few grey suited men around here lately. Beaches were shut again today Newcastle included, school of hammerheads I believe, think that means sighting of bull, white and hammerheads in the last week and obviously last weeks attack.

lots of baitfish in the water and fairly close in, heard someone say the warm current is further toward shore than usual for these parts so the baitfish have moved in closer as have anything chasing them.

Oceanic Bottlenose Dolphin.
I've seen a few down our way recently.
I had no idea such a thing existed until I asked the local
cetacean expert.

Great something else in the water, could be a dolphin we get heaps but that looks fairly large compared to the average one but, there has been plenty of big fish in close lately.

Only way i ever knew to tell them apart quickly was Sharks have a straight dorsal fin and dolphin have curved. Any other ways?

I was in the water working with Trevor Hendy on Sunday and it was freakin dark. I just saw the Hi-Res version, it has a round nose but it is moving real fast..... Just hope everyone keeps on saying Pilot Whale, I am sticking to that.. All the Ironmen and Women were freaking on Twitter... Here is another angle.
