What an incredible day and race. For Suplove Kristen Thomas charged for 1st in her age division and second overall in the women's open. Mandy McDonnell too claimed 3rd in her age class. Joe Aaron and Stuart Murray amazing efforts in the elite class. Jordan Thomas 12th in his age division in the open. All riders on the Suplove 12'6" Stingray stock race board.

Suplove Team Rider JOE AARON with his Suplove Stingray 12'6". Known as Joe Motion - Joe is an incredible addition to the Suplove team.

Excellent result guys.. and gals..

I thought Jacko had won the 12'6" Class and they announced that some other guy had won it so I though maybe Jacko got second.. I'm glad they were wrong..

Check out this pic.

Is that Jacko (?) in the left that's snagged Dan's leggie (or is that waistie) with the nose of his board and has the nose of Chuck's board between his legs..

It's a variation of a double bend paddle.

Idea being that your bottom hand sits in the curve towards the top of the paddle to bring your wrist to a more straight position as opposed to a straight paddle where you either have your wrist at an angle to your arm or release some fingers and make a hook. It is for comfort and less fatigue. I'd love to try one.

As a reference point: The Tahitians are the fastest outrigger paddlers in the world and use the double bend pretty much exclusively.

Read about the Kialoa OC paddle whacky helium.

I would if Kialoa did one.. Actually I'm not 100% sure they're a good thing considering how much we vary where we place out lower hand.. and then there's the problem of cutting them down for different height people.. Here's a great pic that shows that you not only get a more ergo position for your lower hand but you also get a bit more reach.

The guy is Dan Gavere who makes/sells/promotes Werner Paddles so I'm guessing it is definately a Double Bent Werner. And his legrope is attached to his boardies using a carabiner.

Hey Sue, I am chomping at the bit to see the Rambo doco on your hubby and his crew for this weekends race. Sounds like it is shaping up well from reading Rambos updates.

Hope they do well again.

I think that bent paddle is just a copy of those square mouth shovels you see at bunnings to make it easier to shovel stuff.....

Absolutely! Candice is a super fit, strong paddler - she did well. Brandi did very well to beat Andrea Moller in the distance race! Well done girls!

What a great weekend and the distance race was a quik trip up and down the coast,,,,,,, with about 400 racers!!!

Stuart Murray placing 7th in 40-49 stock division behind Kurt Byron and Joe Aaron 12th in 19-29 stock in his first race!

Oldest to complete the distance race? 72 years.

The relay was the classic spectator event with multiple stacks around bouys and some big wipeouts on the waves and collisions in the shorebreak changeover.

Can someone tell me what boards the top guys where on? I know Ka-Ching and Mitchell was on 404's and P and A Jackson on 12'6 Naish Javeline. But what other brands and models were competitive?

I also did a rough calc of average speed for the 10 Mile race and Ka-Ching would have averaged 15.48km/h if race was really that long. Is that speed possible? Here the best guys average 9km/h on flatwater on Javelin's and 12km/h on downwinders on 14' Glide (with 35knots up their backsides)

What average speeds are these guys doing?
