I meant to say "leash drag does not slow you 'very much'..."

Tests tonight were showed maybe 2-3 seconds over 400m. Hard to tell with fatigue.

So I would say, enough difference for serious racing, but probably not enough difference for a leisurely paddle with your mates. Unless you and your mates are deadly serious about beating each other !!

Simon

often when we paddle the creek, we get weed snags. only takes three thin strands and you'll slow right down. if you like to do some resistance training, just take your leggie off and let it trail in the water
cheers

I reckon the balin leg ropes are a great idea, thanks for posting downwind - I'll get myself one.

BTW if I ever get myself in any more trouble on this forum in the future will you bat for me?

They're flat water boards for a flat water race.. It would be a great leggie design for that..

Here's some pics of the Balin leash. They are plenty long enough as a DW leash and if you step back and surf your board they still wont drag. I would not use it coming in through a 4ft shorey but then i wouldn't use any leg rope for that. They are good enough and i'll will use them and now sell them.

G'day DJ
No one wears a legrope in flat water paddling do they. If they do thats funny unless they can't swim (like the Chiness) but then they'ed be wearing a life jacket.

I bought a short length Balin leggie myself and took it for a really good test run on my DC14. It performed better that my expectations so i would highly recommend it for DW paddles.

A rule of thumb is not to surf on your DW board if you can avoid it - as they are not meant for this. Always try and wait for the lull and come in behind the last wave of the set.

I have been using these coiled leashes on DW paddles and have been pretty happy with them.

It was easier to buy a coiled leash from the US then buy in WA.
