Curious as to whether anyone has either moved to a new area or just started surfing somewhere completely new (as a sup'er) and how you have found it, being new to a lineup and especially as a stand up paddler if sup isnt all that well known there.

The reason I bring it up is because I have now been sup'ing in southern tassie for about 3 weeks now and I have met some of the nicest people I have ever met in the surf and probably the most frothing sup surfing crew I have ever surfed with. The surf is fantastic, the crowds very small, and usually zero crowd at all and some of the most stunning paddling waterways imaginable.

So - So far so good - great people - great sup waves - great food - great beer -

JUST GREAT

I just got back from NZ and had no issues there at all , very nice people in and out of the water.
But I think its more the person on the craft than a problem with the craft if you show respect to others in the line up and no your own limits you shouldnt have any problems .

I don't mind Tazmainiac's..

I lived in Hobart for a while and loved it.

Had a great time at the windsurfing nationals once at Marrawah.

I want to go back one day for a motorcycle trip.

Moved down to Vicco for work before xmas and found the same. Better surf than the Goldie by far, less crowds and where I go out there are rarely any other SUP's and I get treated just like anyone else. Pretty laid back crew. Takes a bit getting used to the cold tho and havent even hit middle of winter yet!!

I have to just add: To give you an idea about what it's like surfing here:l

after my first surf with the local crew, I surfed, had a chat and then casually slipped away as quietly as I had ventured into the new lineup and made my way home to warm up. That night I get a txt message from one of the local crew saying "why did you leave in such a hurry I had beers"

after my surf yesterday arvo I pretty much did the same thing - got a hundred waves, had a chat in the carpark and slipped away into the sunset. An hour later I get a txt message from another one of the local crew saying " why did you leave in such a hurry I had the bloody jug on - call in for a cuppa anytime"

This is what sufing is all about, and after all these years it's the first time I have really ever experienced it. Yes, they give me loads of shlt about being a "mainlannder" but I think it's just because they are too embarrassed to say that they really love me.

hi just moved to the tweed area from the nsw/vic border area but live inland so was only flat water paddling Im 51 and use to surf regulary around Kiama on NSW south coast. After reading about all the bulls**t that seems to go on around here Im not sure I want to get back to riding the waves. The hassling was the main reason I gave up surfing in the first place but Im sure I can find somewhere around here that I can catch a few waves without pissing anybody off. I will just have to get out and look.Surely it cant be as bad as seems

Was that batton or betton pies ?

Actually the old convict bakery is on the way.. about 16k before Nubeena

Used to be at a place called Taranna

That bakery has closed down .. pitty

The old baker sold out and the new owners went convenience store.

The local Nubeena bakery is a more modern structure .. but good produce

Mate, I got the river this morning to myself - clean and glassy 3-4 (inches). I think spencers dogs made bigger waves when they ran in for a swim. Had a great time regardless and still got my hundred waves. What an amazing spot.
