This was an excellent day and by all accounts enjoyed by both exhibitors and visitors. Massive thank you to the Shops and Distributors. It was fantastic to have you all there and the feedback I got from visitors about your products great. This has massively increased the interest in this sport in this region.
A big thank you to the team from the SUP club that put this together. It is great working on this with such a crew.
We had a good number of interested people turn up to talk to exhibitors and gain advice from Woogie. When the first session was taken by Woogie which was aimed at people just starting out we had over 20 new people grab a board and paddle. When came the time for the more experienced peoples session the photos below show the crowd. Thanks Woogie as your time and expertise is greatly appreciated.
The quality of gear on the market today is awesome. After the time trials I was like a new kid jumping from one toy to the next and have to say that not one board disappointed me. The hard decision is what type of activity am I chasing (flat, downwind, BOP) I put a speed puck on a number of them and all 14' I tried were in .3km/h of each other. Admittedly I only tried one 12'6" today and was impressed with it speed nearly matching the 14'. This was Simon's new 12'6 x 25" Deep Oceanboard.
We had the 4.24km time trial of which about 38 took part in. Many others stayed to demo more gear that had not been taken underarm to do the time trial with.
The kids took off next on a 1km time trial.
The race was on: Taj Marsh (Young Woogie) took out the juniors, followed by Bailey Day, Kai Roberts, Joel Farquharson, Lily Andrews and Jordan Farquharson.
Then came the return of the adults. Kelly Margetts brought the field in, Lincoln Dews was close behind with the next battle being between Ryan Keck and Dale Chapman. Full results further down the post.
The new Lahui Kai's and Starboard Aces were fantastic.
This new Naish 14' Hollow board is a weapon.
This Bark was very fast and felt great under feet. Just had to try and get it when Damo wasn't on it Then came the first 12'6" boards with more 14' boards behind them. Great effort to Rob being the first 12'6" smashing it out on the F-One followed by Kevin on the 12'6" Red Fanatic.
After the time trials we tried some sprint races. 100, 200m and 500m. 100m

I tried to get this in the car but Simon was watching too closely
Thanks Di and JT for all the photos. We have some more and will post latter.
I would like to publicly say "Thank you" to Swanie for organising this epic day. I'm proud to be a Sunny Coast'a and arguably we are leading the way in getting our sport moving. I couldn't go, but from the photo's a young Taj Marsh (mini Woog) will be smashing it out just like his old man soon? and heaps of smiles Also a BIG thank you to Jonho for organising the food and coffee. "Now lets get behind the Coolum BOP race". Cheers Jonesy

I heard you were too scared to race against us big boys, trying to cover it with the "working" excuse????
Thanks Rusty, Paul and Matt. It wasn't just me though.
I had a blast and enjoyed the battle with Ali Cat over the last kilometer. All the exhibitors were brilliant and I am looking forward already to organising another in Summer. One of the best parts was seeing all the kids getting into it and loving it.
Matt, the boards were fantastic and the advancements over the last 12 months is massive. I went their with a couple of boards in mind that I wanted to narrow down the choice of after demoing and left undecided on the choice of more then 6 great boards. Have to now think hard about what exactly I want it for and how much I want to spend / afford.
Have to get you, Potts and Dippa into it. Come down the Lake on a Thursday arvo.

Well done Swanie & team for organising such a good representation of the huge range of SUP race boards on the market. The race results showed that no brand has the the monotony with 9 brands in the top 15 places, Lahui Kai ( Kelly 1st place), Starboard, Naish, DC , Laird, Deep Ocean, Bark, F-One & Fanatic.
Devo'd I couldn't get down there on Sunday - I had interstate visitors (my oldies) up for the weekend. I really wanted to demo a few and I'm sure I would have walked away with a board if I'd been there. Bugger.
Any plans for another similar event on the sunny coast soon?

Hi Dave
We have plans to do this twice a year and maybe one in the Surf at Noosa. Jodie has organised and absolutely fantastic surf sup expo the last 2 years. Come tomorrow to the lake.
