Scotty McCercher was a bloody good poledancer in his day-he's now the Starboard guy.

Just the name "Waterman" (and no offence to the C4 guys-guess they're stuck with that stupid moniker now) makes me want to vomit into my wheeties-a paddle and an oversized board does NOT make someone a 'waterman' (whatever the fugg that is).

The selection process looks pretty political to me - depends on if you are aligned with a big SUP company. To call it a "World Tour" implies it is looking to find a World Champion yet the assumption seems to be all the best riders are from Hawaii or the USA.

With all due respect, watching some of these guys trying to ride production 'Tankers' at Chopes looks ridiculous to me and does nothing for the sport. For crying out loud why would you ride a round nosed thing that looks like a mal at a place like Chopes.

Yeah Scott McKercher absolutely rips.

A friend of mine who has been in W.A. since September rekons Scotty has been
getting some rediculously long barrels well over 6-8ft on a round nosed Starboard.
He is always there testing new product. Pretty crap life!

Apparently he can barely walk as he is waiting to get a hip replacement, but is still
getting in the water and ripping.

I've no doubt he does and I reckon a good rider can ride anything, but am still curious as to how the whole 'World Tour' thing is decided and on what criteria.

Agreed on all points....if its a world tour there should be trails and all that **** as well as the seeded surfers

100% agree with goatman very political selection process in deed would love to see some type of qualification comps of some sort not just ramdomly picking guys. But i guess this sport is too young and all that is yet to come i hope?

Not having a go in any way, shape or means goatman, but you bring up an interesting point. I've long been a believer that the shape of the nose is irrelevant in the performance of the board.

Thoughts??

No worries aussiefreebs, guess that why I threw it out there, love to hear what other people think. Thought I would have gotten roasted by now

From what little I know about design and from experience the nose shape plays an important role in making steep drops and holding a line in the barrel, which is why you don't see too many videos of Mals riding places like Chopes or Pipe - not to say it can't done - just not the ideal equipment IMO. You would want a nice sleek, narrow rocket for that place I would have thought.

Hopefully we will see some of the new gun production boards in action like the new JLs, Naish and PSHs. Love to see some Aussie designs in there as well.

I reckon, add Tom Carrol to list as well. A local guy here in Sydney, Matt Grainger is a hell man as well - real good SUPer in big waves.

I guess not everyone has the inclination, time or money even if they could.

About as close to a 'world tour' as the 'world series' is to a real world series

Right on all counts goatie

I guess they dont call it a world championship , just a world tour.Like some one said its a start , when it does come to OZ no doubt the Aussie bregade will kick ass.Hopefully it will be a good showcase for the sport and encourage more young guys and girls to get into it.

Dave Muir ...wasn't he a ruckman for the Dockers for awhile. There were some pics of him carving it up at Gracetown. I swim in a squad with his cousin who is a keen surfer and has surfed with Dave heaps.. He says Dave is fearless... frequently pushing the limits at Strickland Bay Rotto.. Nothing for him to break a board or two.
Go Dave
