Last little reminder for the Sydney guys before the weekend. NWer should help with a nice bit of wind on the back.

Cheers,

Sam.

Hey Sam, I will be heading down for a run, should be a fun day. NW'r predicted so I presume it will be from Palmy to Mona Vale.

I'll be bringing down some goodies from my store if anyone is interested. Have the latest C4 SUP leggies, loads of paddles, grips etc....if you would like to see any specific item let me know so I make sure I throw it in.

Results from yesterday's race.

First SUP home was Sam Parker. Well Done!

Division Results:

A. 14ft+ with rudder
1st - Sam (Starboard Point)

B. 12-14ft stock no rudder
1st - Simon (C4 Vortice XP)
2nd - Bruce Raymond (C4 Vortice XP)

C. Up to 12ft stock
Nil competitors???

With a howling WNW made it sometimes a fun paddle when picking up runners around the points but made it pretty tough when the wind went on the shoulder. The upwind start was a killer but it was all worthwhile at the end with a BBQ and beers put on by Sam from Kialoa Paddles.

With all the interest on the racing scene in this forum it was a pretty disappointing turn out for the SUPs.

Come on guys lets not kill it off before it even begins!

I would have loved to enter but had a prior engagement that I couldn't get out of. Bugger, I would've won the under 12' division (being the only competitor). The next couple of races in this series might be too long for me.

What were your times like? Did you beat any OC1s over the line? Was the event organized well? Did Kialoa have the new Methane paddle to show off?

Times, pics and results in relation to the outriggers should be available at the end of the day with a bit of luck. Will post them when I can.

The event was a good one with great support from the organisers. Unfortunately though as Simon has said it was a little disappointing on the SUP turnout front but in the end if paddlers had turned up and hadn't messed around with events and distances like that before then they may struggled. Pretty hot and hard work for a fair bit of the race.

In future though if any Sydneysiders are keen to do this sort of thing but haven't got the kit drop me a line before the next event. We have a good hire fleet of boards just on 12' that would be OK to attack this sort of event. They may not be the fastest things out there but if you're up for a challenge then they'll do fine.

Managed to get across the line ahead of a few outriggers which felt good. The times when I got some better help from the shin high chop and wind I could run stay with or pull back some time on the outriggers who were on their way by. Too few of these moments meant that we got pretty well nailed. In better wind and some swell I'd say we could finish higher up the rankings for sure. Time will tell.

Sorry I couldn't stay around at the end for a beer Simon but had some strong pressure coming from the missus to get home asap. I'd promised to do some chores done that I'd that I'd been putting off for a while in return for her support vehicle work.

See you at the next one.

Sam.

Hey Sam,

Luckily we didn't start any later otherwise we would've got that southerly smack in the face! Lets hope its blowing like that for the next race and a true downwinder!

Yeah, definately we were out pacing the oc's on the runners. GPS recorded pulses up to 16km/hr for the first couple of k's.

Should have the DC16 back in the water for the next race to give you abit of a run Sam (Currently having rudder repairs after hitting a rock last week) and also should be a couple more XP's hopefully.

Getting a parking fine off Warringah Council - $81
Paddling a 20k race and finishing it up with a bbq & beers - pricele$$

The 2nd race of the northern beaches paddle series was held today from Palm Beach to Longreef - 20km, long course, & 13km to Mona Vale, short course.

Started off in a light ENE wind before the NE kicked in with about 5km's to go. Overtook a couple of yachts under sail in the first half of the race which just shows how light the wind was. Added bonus was seeing multiple whale breaches out in front!

Bruce.R cleaned it up in the short course on the XP, well done Bruce.

Will Anido from the c/coast came home first in the long course on the DC16, well done Will. I was a couple of board lengths behind on a XP.

Fastest paddler - Will with the DC16

DC16 alongside the XP. Those little blue bags are the PFD's that are worn around the waist. They are good and don't interfere with your paddle stroke.

Thanks Sam from Kialoa Paddles and Hinano clothing for supplying the prizes.
