I'm tipping Jackson Close if he's in it.
I watched him surf very average Currumbin beachy a couple of weeks ago and I will go as far as saying it is the best SUP surfing I have seen whether it be on video, photo or real life from anywhere ever full stop.
Even my missus said 'oh my god who is that?', then she noticed he was on SUP and said 'I thought he was ripping on a short board, that makes it even more unbelievable'. The waves were bumpy and short and he was fins out every turn, full roundhouse cutbacks and huge tail drop floaters all over the place in waves most people would have been struggling to ride. All without the awkward what do I do with the paddle look.
He may have been surfing OK at the Festival but remember he is only a beginner on SUP. As soon as he applies his style to SUP fully he will be a force to be reckoned with.
Jackson is a Currumbin local and rips on Mal (pro tour), shorty etc. It does not surprise me to see him surfing so well on a SUP.
Big call , i recon their all lucky Kieren Taylors not in it ,he is the best ive seen.Ive only seen Jackson once and yes he is awesome too but ill put my money on Billy Watson.
Yep, I watch Woody and Kizza surf a bit. I also thought that Kizza was as good as it gets. He undoubtedly rips and so does Billy, for that matter Jacko is no slouch either.
Then I seen Jackson this day. Granted it may have been the day, you know one of those glue foot days but he was ripping. I have never seen anybody ride SUP like that before. I was honestly gobsmacked. Ask Rooster if you see him also, he was down there that arvo.
It's a big call but as I say if he surfs like that on the day he will be hard to stop. The best surfer does not always win a heat though.......
