Well,, it's that time of year again when it's time to test yourself against the clock and other paddlers in the 2011/12 RPS Race Series.

For this season, we've teamed up with the paddle crew from Half Moon Bay SLSC and will be running a 5 race series. Based on the 1 hour format as in past years, this year will see sup paddlers thrashing it out on the same course with ski and rescue mal paddlers.

Expect a few surprises and different courses, maybe even some beach running. This series will test the best and also allow the recreational paddlers to improve their endurance as well as skill level.

All races will be held at Half Moon Bay. There is ample parking, toilets and a cafe [ for breakfast].

Registration is from 7 am, with racing starting at 8am. Early start = Early finish, so you can be back at home for breakfast!

Course length will vary depending upon weather and wind conditions.

Categories for Sup paddlers will include

- Men's, Open and 12'6"

- Womens, Open and 12'6"

- Men's over 45, Open and 12'6"

- Juniors [ 16 and under]

Sup paddlers must be a current Sup Vic member [ you can join on the day].

Entry fee per race is $10 per paddler.

Overall results will be calculated on the paddlers' 3 best placings.

Paddlers who enter 3 or more races are eligible for the major prize which will be a spanking, new Starboard 12'6" Race board.

Get training now, as the first race is Sunday, Sept 11th.

Hah! Yeah Simon, I lifted that from the events page which I posted a month or so ago.

I hope everyone has been training, it's not like we've not had suitable for conditions.

Long range forecast is suggesting that we'll have a BOP style race this Sunday.

Sunday 11 SeptemberWindsSouth to southwesterly 15 to 20 knots decreasing to 10 to 15 knots during the evening.
Seas0.5 to 1.5 metres.

Hopefully the wind will moderate and we'll still have a few residual waves rolling into Half Moon Bay. Either way, it will make it fun.

Don't forget, you must be a current Sup Vic member to race. There will be Sup Vic volunteers at the registration area that can assist you with membership.

Further to Warwick's last post, there is a benefit to signing up as a member of SUP VIC on Sunday and that is the annual membership ($40 adult, $20 junior, $80 family) will be valid for 15 months through to end of November 2012.

Pt and I did a thorough recci this arvo and I've got to admit that Dw aside, i caught a few bay howlers off the HMB reef that really carried. Should be a fun, interesting BOP style event in the morning.

Sorry Warwick but the Kale family won't be represented in the morning,
I have a shoulder full of cortisone, Jono has a raging fever and Azza has a grading for karate, yeah soft I know.
Just been outside and the wind has dropped right off, it's about 9 pm Saturday and I'm about 5 km's from HMB
Have a great race
Cheers Mel

No worries Mel, the Kale Clan will be missed.
A few more jabs in the shoulder and you'll be back on track.
See you all for round 2.

Congrats to Hock on a dominant win and a curse upon the person who loaned him that Starboard 12'6". Also great effort from Rupert to push his 17' Glide around so many turns to take second.

Oh well, better that he should beat me with a good board than with an old non-raceboard.

Yep, agree!

Massive effort by everyone that paddled for the full 60 mins. Tough conditions, but fun

Obviously I used the wrong utensil today and took out a whisk instead of an egg beater!

Well done to Hock and PT, both on Starboards.

Full race report and pix over the next few days.

Yeah further to hock's post, thanks to RPS and also Half Moon Bay Life Saving Club for running the event. With conditions the way they were, it's a big call to go ahead but there was never a danger, it was just challenging.

They didn't end up running full BOP, the low tide and sand bar didn't really allow it. There was no beach run each lap, we just went upwind and then downwind for 13 or 14 laps.

8. Mark Bradke - OPEN (12 laps)
9. Alan Fairlie - 12'6" (11 laps) - O.F.
10. Emma Morris - 12'6" (10 laps)
11. Con Toronis - 12'6 (9 laps)
12. Michael Jenkins - OPEN (7 laps - DNF) - O.F.
13. Ben Owzinsky - PRONE (5 laps - DNF)
14. Scott Newman - OPEN (1 lap - DNF)

Great effort by everyone who took part in challenging conditions. I'm pretty sure everyone who competed ended up in the drink at one stage. Paul Harrington managed to stay upright, right up to the last lap on his way into shore - when he was unceremoniously dumped. Oh well!

Photos will be posted tomorrow.

cheers

Emma did a sterling job!

She showed up most of the guys and paddled hard all the way to the end.

What irked me was she didn't even look that tired at the end of the race!

Dave, you win the "High, Dry and Mighty" award.

Me, on the other hand, had many dunkings!

Thanks for the support guys, i was pretty tired after the race and exhausted today. It was well worth it for the first swim of the season! The hour did fly for I was watching every wave. See you all on the 9th Oct.
Cheers Em
