i will have a look at a ultra pinnacle today. a place called aqua sports and dive on the goldie are listed as having them.i'm not that fussed on wearing them, but have been told they are no problems, so it will be good to try one on myself
cheers

Just a tip when buying the Ultra Pinnacle PFD.

Buy the largest size that you can get.. I think it's SL (super large)

I have put all the sizes on top of each other to check out the differences and the are all the same in every way.. except one.. The length of the shoulder straps.. and because we wear them low with the shoulder straps extended it's best to let the longest ones.

Hey mikeman.. re..

Sorry to disappoint you but you just might have to start learning soon. The regulations are tightening up on all of us ocean paddlers, especially after a recent event down south.

I agree with Jonathan.. Please explain?

I spoke to a mate in the MSB in NSW regarding these supposed regulation changes and he is not aware of any such changes relating to stand up paddlers. Apparently the only real complaints that he is aware of relate to sups in rivers/estuaries paddling around boatramps and powered craft with their head up their ##se (his term not mine)

Hi Mike,
Picked this MTI Adventurewear Eddy up from Goodtime today. Comes with a 2 ltr hydration pack. Doesn't interfere with paddling and the hydration sipper has a magnet which holds it in the perfect position for drinking without handling it. Very comfortable.

Thats a scarey looking jacket

I just can't see Harbours & Marine indtroducing the the PDF 1 , it would have to be implemented across the board on all water craft, you couldn't wear one on a Jet Ski it would break your neck if you came off.

I'm with ramborooc1 on the bum bag pfd's - there great for getting around a PFD requirement for a race - but there pretty much useless when you really need them as you have to physically take them out of the pack, put them on and then activate or blow them up, which is pretty hard to do injured or tired.

Gas inflated PFD's are good - but you have to take care of them and service them or they won't work.

I just took my new Ultra Trek for a two hour run and found it very comfortable, in fact I didn't give it a second thought after a few minutes paddling. (for the test paddle I only packed a small bottle of water, no bladder or any other items) The Trek has an assortment of well thought out storage pockets.

The Ultra Trek cost me $130, and it is the next model up from the Ultra Pinnacle which is about $20 less.

Old mate at the shop knew his stuff and explained that correct fitment is necessary and getting the right size is important.

The only issue I could foresee is although its a minimal design it still may be a little hot in summer, but this would be the case with any PFD of this style.

Hope this helps, Cheers

Thanks for the feedback. It looks like there are a few who now have the Ultra Trek and Ultra Pinnacle so we should get some good input on what people think of these.

The MTI Adventurewear pfd also looks like it could be worth looking at.

Thanks Jim,

Can you let us know what you think of this once you have done a few paddles with it?
