Sorry I did not mean legislative law for leg ropes or some form of attachment but a common sense law that responsible people should abide by. All too often people are cleaned up by irresponsible riders especially clubby boards who never have a leggy and who should know better although I did see a Supp swimming after his board last week. Just a bit of common sense needed.
I know I feel more comfortable wearing one even paddling up the creek but I notice that I'm the only one wearing one. I think the older we get self preservation kicks in and we realise that we are no longer bullet proof. (as if we ever were)
I too would fight any proposal to make leggys law, but I nonetheless always use them even as a good swimmer.
I was paddling on Sunday and a bloke who'd borrowed a SUP asked for a few pointers. I figured the best advice I could give (along with the surfing tips) was to attach the leggy to his ankle given that the other end was already attached to his board. Afterall, 200L of foam unleashed and unrestrained on a wave has the potential to kill one of those kids in the whitewater. I wasn't a smartass about it, just friendly and clear.

He agreed it would be smarter to wear the leggy and put it on. As it turned out, they were his kids.
Some people just don't do mental risk assessments beyond themselves and some people don't do them at all. These people aren't generallly dumb, it's just that common sense only works if you've thought about the problem. You don't know what you don't know till it bites you on the bum but the occasional friendly chat on the water can go a long way.
