IMO Naish got it right with their 12'6" boards.. The 12'6" Jav is an awesome race/bop board and their 12'6" Glide is a 'big boy' version of it.. At 95kgs I love my 12'6" Glide.. Maybe all Naish need to do is bring out a 29" wide 14' Glide as a 'big boy' DW board and a 28-29" wide 14' Jav as a 'big boy' 14' race board.

By the way, if you want to see totally typical paddling conditions for me take a look at the live coverage right now (if you can) of the Olympic sailing, which is being held not far from my beach. Bear in mind that these are very mild conditions compared with what we can get on decent DWers. Then imagine yourself on a 23 3/8″ Javelin LE out there and ask yourself if you'd be happy.

I remember reading once that Robbie tended to make gear that he liked. I love naish stuff the design of all their gear, SUP, windsurfing and kiting is consistent and of a high quality. The comment does stand though, Robbie makes gear that suits him and he is a little bloke (and freakishly talented to boot). I would like to state for the record that I am not sponsored by anyone (although I would be more than happy to talk to any potential sponsors so I can be an undercover pimp)

Actually Robby's not that small.. If he's not at least 75-85kgs I'd surprised.. I'd say he's pretty average in hight and solid as..

I'm sure Robby gives his feedback about new boards but I think it's Michi that is the driving force behind the Naish sup boards.

Robby's a fair bit bigger than you Dan.. I'm not saying he's big.. just that he's not a little bloke.

Maybe because I look up to him so much I think he's bigger than he really is.. .. He's seems to be able to paddle the 7'8" Hokua ok so I guess he can't be that big.

Any update yet from Naish about the width and other details of the new 18fter? It's still not given on their website. Any rumours, DJ?

I've heard that Naish (here) have no more 17' Glides and I think that's it for them.. So I feel lucky to have one.. .. Because it is a beautiful thing..

I've asked about the new LE18 and they don't think we will see them available till early next year.. I'm very interested to see what they are like.. I imagine they will be a very similar width to the 17 (if not slightly less) because the 17 is very stable and adding a square tail and a slightly less pointy nose as well as a more forward standing area should make it even more stable.

I never thought I'd get an interest in race boards. But my local shop just got in a new 12'6" Naish GS...... Been looking(& starting to drool) over it. Can see myself cruising through our beautiful Harbour on one.

How many boards have you got DJ?

"How many boards have you got DJ?"

Umm.. About half a dozen.. or more..

BTW.. I used my 12'6" GS (Glide) the last few days and yesterday I had four total strangers hop on and have a go.. and now are hooked for sure.

It was perfect glass and sunny.. How could you not get hooked.. .. Besides being so stable and 30" wide how could you fall off in those conditions.. (They were all in their street clothes).

She said yes!?!?

I got the green light to buy a 12'6"

So I've been looking at the Glide & Glide Javelin & now wondering which one?
In Robby Naishs videos he says the Javelin is for guys up to 95kg/200 lb & Glide is 200-220lb or 100+kg. I'm in the latter category but is the Javelin faster due to being narrower? Can it handle 102kg?

Reckon you'd be able to Demo both these boards Zeusman at a good Sup retailer,
you may find the glide 30" a bit more user friendly unless only ever paddling on flat water smooth waterways,
Cheers.

Nice rack and nice quiver.. Congrats on the new 12'6" Glide.

I paddle my 12'6" Glide most days now.. I love it .. It's a great all round board that you can just cruise around on.. Race it.. Do a downwinder on it.. and even take into the surf for BOP type surfing .. It's also stable enough to let friends and even strangers have a go on that have never SUP'ed before.. I'm sure you'll get plenty of use out of it..

Thanx DJ

That was my next question. Seeing as I'm new to race boards I was going to ask if 12'6" BOP boards are useable for downwinders?
