My mate and I both have Naish adjustable paddles in our quiver and we LOVE them. Wouldn't have one of their boards if they gave me one (yeah right ) but can't fault the paddles at all for their intended purpose.

I also don't think it's fair to say that something's crap because we don't like it - I think that if we need to say anything at all then just say that we don't like it, for whatever reason because not everything works the same for everybody and not everyone has the same expectations of a product.

Just my 2c worth.

lets knock a few myths out of the way.......as far as it being a grand royal mega Naish bash, well thats just about as crap as the paddle I used....sure, if I said that Naish were the worst SUP company on the planet, their business ethics were totally imoral, their boards junk land fill and that Dave Kalama made the best decision of his life leaving them, upon which he should sue them for the 3 years of his life that he cant now get back.....well yeah, BUT, I didnt say that, NORE, do I think it. I have surfed a mates Naish 8.4 the last few days, he has riden mostly Naish the last 2 years and loves them. I think their products, on a whole, are great quality, and its no fluke they have as many items in customers hands as they do. Even he thinks the paddle is crap!...As far as stating why I think its crap, what does it matter? I could use alot of fancy magazine type reviewing journalism but in the end it would be the same result....so without jerking myself and others off as some sort of authority I gave it to you all quick. For 99% of the so called review stuff on here, it is just OPINION and you have to go with what suits you and makes you feel warm and fuzzy.....rather than the hype of the masses lead by the sea breeze "pros"

to give a little more insight for the anal types, I use Quick Blade, have also used Magic Carpet, C4 and kialoa...so IMHO the Naish paddle I used was a piece of crap! dont take it to heart or to seriously.....

oh and not enough red thumbs in here.....I really thought I started a cluster ****.....but ovibiously I didnt stand on it hard enough

The paddle original poster didn't like is no longer in the Naish range - so it's a bit like getting into a 90's car (yes, the SUP industry is making big leaps) and saying it doesn't compare to a modern car.

I got the new 2012 Kaholo's (full carbon) and Makani's (carb/glass) yesterday and I test rode the 9.0 Kaholo and 8.0 Kaholo vario. Super light, grippy catch, good hold and perhaps a little sticky on exit compared to what I have been using lately, but great paddles all round.

Finish is unbelievable, vario system probably best on market (fitting never once touched my hand) as it takes no water, is light and infinitely adjustable on the fly with neat 1 inch markings.

The Alana is designed as a ladies paddle so if someones hands got stuck on adjuster it's probably because someone is a foot taller than whom it was intended for. It's got a very flexi shaft and forgiving small blade - so to me the paddle would also be crap - but it was never intended for me - so let's play fair when we give "reviews"

so we can only have good reviews on stuff.....I guess thats why nut swinging is so popular around here....

just to clarify, it was the type with the white blade and a small half circle cut out of the bottom of the blade

I think you'd be lucky to get $120 for that paddle on eBay. It was probably the big 9 inch blade. It's the heavier fiberglass blade. From memory weighs in at 700+ grams. That paddle was also thrown in free with boards at the end of its retail life. it was also 2008 and 2009 when it was retailed. Plus there was a better Kevlar Version of the same paddle.

It is slightly unfair to compare it to $400 to $500+ available now.

That particular paddle is a strong and durable paddle, and fine for bigger blokes as a recreational paddle. You could cut the blade down if you felt the blade was too big.

I have one in my garage collecting dust. If you want it, PM me!

good god.....here we go.

All those variables and excuses is exactly why I didnt "review" it....lets clear a few things up..AGAIN. Its Ebay value has no effect on how it performs in the water. As far as it being strong and durable, well the owner snapped his other one and he is a wopping 78kg.....As for age, my QB is atleast 1.5 years older than it and 10 times the paddle it will never be. Price point I dont buy into as do they advertise it as being cheap but crap???? And why is yours gathering dust? either you dont like it or dont SUP very much

but hey everyone has an OPINON right....

lf it's not too much of a generalization l feel manufacturers that specialize in making paddles typically make a better paddle. They sink or swim purely on the quality of the paddles and don't fall back on"plan B".ie sell other types of equipment.
l have one of each and both around same price point

Fair suck of the sav, no where in the Naish literature does it say for women only. I know a lot of ladies that are as tall as me and prob paddle harder than me. There are also a lot of guys using the "ladies" paddle from another brand and loving it.

Just for the record a short person (man/woman/child) may not hit their hand on the adjuster on an alana paddle as it would be just under the handle, but most people using the paddle are gunna bang their hand on it at some stage - no big deal really as you just need to change your technique slightly to suit - oh AND the naish website clearly states that the alana is for women and children.

i only have 2 paddles, one a $200 carbon thing and a naish Kevlar "wave" paddle cost about $350 i find the wave paddle fine but i know jack Sh!t about paddles and wouldn't comment about paddles as my knowledge in this area is zero but i do respect people that have more knowledge regardless if they dislike a product i use... Good on you Husq your entitled to your opinion and i respect it

I have purchased a naish adjustable paddle for the whole family to use - one of the yellow things that I thought the whole family could use cost about $139 from memory. After three goes, my 12 year old boy comes back in and the yellow T-handle has come straight off the shaft.

I know they're cheap but after three goes, I didn't expect it to come apart!

Can't comment on the more expensive Naish paddles though.
