That would be the Maliko race rather than the Molokai race, would it not?

Just finished this.

There was only 12-18 knots so not so thrilling for Maui.

Kai Lenny got the fastest time overall, riding his 14'

Dale just rang me he came in 3rd in the 30 to 45's on his DC Camo was not far behind.

There is some confusion over lines honours with Kai Lenny , apprantly he started 3 min in front of where he should of and the 3 mins has not been deducted from his time ?????

Does anyone know the Full Correct Story

Great result for Dale too - looks like a good show all round for the Aussies.

I don't know about the times, but they usually start this race in waves. Last year I think the order was prone was first then 12'6 class 3 minutes later, then another 3 mins to 14's and then 3 mins to opens. So there's a chance he could have gotten line honours, but not the fastest adjusted time? Or maybe he just paddled at the wrong time how you say? I guess the full story will come out at some stage.

Reading on the Zone - it seems the 14' boards start 3 minutes earlier than the unlimited so that's why there's some confusion over whether there will be corrected times and the win awarded to DK. Bill Boyum is perhaps being a touch cynical in suggesting Naish, as sponsor of the race, has set the rules and as a result, the current Naish rider wins ahead of the ex Naish rider.

Edit: The time sheet shows Kai Lenny finished 3 mins 10 sec ahead of DK so even if that is not already accounted for, Kai wins by 10 seconds.

Great paddle by Dave today for third place overall ,
we all wore timing devices around our ankles so I reckon the times would of been easily adjusted to allow for the staggered start, the event organisation was excellent, there was even free massages for the competitors after the race and a meal of cold meats ,salad , and fruit, I think Iron Phil found some free beer to,
here are a couple of pics of Dave accepting third place and the top elite guys,
awesome day.

Just saw the first page of results, the photo was a bit blurry but it looks like Kai's time was 1:08:22 and Dave Kalama 1:11:32, so even if you add the questionable 3 mins to Kai's time he still took the win by 10seconds, although if he'd been side by side with DK maybe there would have been a paddle battle and a different result, you never know.
Dave Kissane also within a minute of the other DK finishing in 1:12:17.

For the first time they appear to have added and 'Elite' sup category in addition to the board classes, so that clears up the women's results, Terrene was 4th in the Elite class behind the Maui girls and Karen Wrenn was behind them but won the Unlimited women's class.

This Naish Race is the best Race in the World and Best Day ever I had the best Paddle Battle with Alan Cadiaz we are both born in 62 and I think our birthdays are around 3 weeks apart the last 4 races Alan has beaten me by around 2 minutes this time it was me beating Alan by about 2 minutes stoked I'll find out were I've come in the over 50's by tomorrow hopefully top 3. I do know the full story of what happened with Dave Kalama and Kai Lenny but I can't say anything remember these guys are on million dollar contacts. What an after party had THE BEST TIME EVER got fully flyblown Blair And John the race organises and I were the last man standing then went on and partied at another house I'm sooo hung over today (Help Me Plaese Mr Wizard) doing a Maliko Run on the 3:00pm shuttle the wind is around 20 knots
Bill Boyum the man behind the lens and Me. Bill was the first surfer to discover and surf Gland long before Gerry Lopez

Kissa would have to be the best SUP paddler in Australia by far from what I've seen. Coming from a clubbie background paddling ski's and OC1's all his life would help big time I couldn't paddle a ski 10 feet to save myself, I've just only ever been a surfer.

Also looks like Gaullie is in fine form on the Prone Boards heading in to the Molokai to Oahu race.
2 mins ahead of Tim Foran and 5 mins ahead of Mick Porra. Fingers crossed for him and the other Aussie's next weekend.

"Quote from the Zone"

To their credit, the contest organizers went back and changed the results. Kai was deducted 30 seconds for not racing in the correct division. Kalama won. The video shows it when DK arrives at the finish. He looks around, no one is near him so he just cruises and steps off his board like a sunday stroll.... and walked up the finish line. Kai had the previous start three minutes ahead and was already in.

If you're running with bulls, you have to line up on the same start with them. So it was good. Dave won it fair and square.

For those that don't know, Dave is an O40 with kids and not a semi pro like a lot of these guys, incredible result. SPSC member as well

So what Aussies are over there for this weekend??

Mick Dibetta is in good form and had trained super hard in the Prone.

Dale Chapman is solo as well.

Alain, French guy but from here.

is Kissa in this week?

Iron Phil?

Terrene?

I think I read Cam is coming home.

Who else are we rooting for? I don't care what company, hometown or training group there from... What other Aussies are in the race?
