Dale actually hit the beach first on his 14 in front of Peasey on his 17 but, big effort by Dale....but Troy mowed him down easily in the run.
In the local camp I saw 11 DC's , 4 Lahui kai , 1 secret Agent , 1 Laguna Bay , Imports apx 5 or 6 Naish & 1 Bark ,don't know about the rest this is just what I counted.
The race start was hard straight into a funnelling raging current but what goes up must come down so the second half of the race they had a full flood tide behind them.

Must have killed Jacko standing behind at the start line on his 17 not being ready to race again yet

I still can't believe he made it to the 1/4 finals with his broken leg.
This was definitely a flat water race and Jacko raises a good point about different boards for different races. I've had the same conversation with Dale and that’s why his new 14 footer looks like it does, Dale calls it a Hybrid. It's just proven itself in the flat and from he tells me about the 14's sea trails it smokes as a down winder as well.
Lahui Kai are design based from there race proven 18' prone boards and again these boards are quick in the flat as well as down wind. Jamie Mitchell won the battle of the Paddle on this board.
Secret Agent is a another board with a heavy influence of prone paddle boards but Troy has gone a step further with the double concave almost making the board a tri hull. Troy won the Noosa race on his prototype.
Best part about all the above Dale , Burcey & Troy all live on the Gold Coast, how good is that. These 3 guys will continue to push each other constantly moving the goal post making these boards faster and easier to handle in all conditions.
This sets up a great challenge to the production board companies , something I'm sure they'll take on at the end of the day all this R&D is going to produce some RED HOT race boards.
