i don't mind the two lads. they filled in the gap a certain a bloke used too. would be a bit dull without um. perhaps they prick the little recesses in the back of our minds about actually being on sups and not spending much time on the shorties?.still, i reckon every surfer alive should do down winding as a backup to surfing

I agree with lacey, why are some of you guys so bloody serious ? At times its quite clear that its a one up gamesmanship thats going on,and some are held back because they fear the repercussions that may come their way and lose of face.I believe a forum is for OPEN discussion, its not like someone died so chill outl,I know a few X seabreezers who may look but dont post for this reason.
Guys like BP so funny at times and Legion has always been polite in his post whether you agree or disagree with him.

I want to see a Surf Off !!

Harsh calls about Laird. If you can get your hands on a copy of "Pacific Vibrations", an old early 70's surf flick, you'll see some fine surfing by Billy Hamilton and others, and a very young Laird with Billy. A very rare case of the son adopting the father ! This is Laird's background...

www.pacificvibrations.com/

I was fortunate to spot this movie title in the TV guide at 4.30am one morning, set the old VHS to auto record, and when I awoke, I checked if it was surf related, and I was so freakin stoked with what I just taped !!! We watched this film for more than a decade! Awesome soundtrack also..... I understand there is or has been some legal issues surrounding the soundtrack, and artist royalties, and it has prevented the movie from being re-released on DVD.... (???)

Yeah, I'd be interested too. If jed's willing to pay for me to have a free Qld holiday then that's great. But if he's willing to come to WA just to try to stop someone posting on an internet forum then I'm a bit worried about how much of a psycho he is.

If I won, what's to make him give me his SUP? His word? Not that I want one anyway, but honestly I can't imagine putting myself in that position, gambling my board in order to hope someone stops posting on my favourite forum. Wow.

And if I lost, what do I care what he thinks? His grumpy opinion isn't enough to make me stop posting. Laurie's the only one who can do that.

Or is he that serious that he wants to make a fully legal "competition", and is willing to fly two competitors and four partial judges and one impartial judge somewhere in Australia, with a fully vetted legal contract to enforce the conditions, and the willingness to take the matter to court should one party welsh on the conditions? All over my posts on "his" forum? Honestly?

I used to be very active on certain martial arts forums. There were occasions when people would try to set up internet fights due to differences of opinions. Threads would drag on for weeks, lawyers would get involved, people would never agree on the terms and conditions of the fights. There was one where both parties did actually turn up after an 80 page thread argument but each brought a friend and one was a girl (admittedly a psycho MA fanatic who could probably look after herself alright) who ended up in the fight. She also brought a handgun with her. Then there was a 100 page thread where they debated who won and who lost respect. No-one wins in internet fights.

Anyway, I'll have a surf with anyone who wants one if I have the time (best midweek arvos except Tuesdays). But I'm not going to stop posting if someone thinks they're a better surfer than me. That's crazy talk.

And if the best surfer is the only one allowed to post, that'd involve years of competition and eventually there'd only be one person on the forum.

Who knows, jed might be better than me. I've seen videos of plenty of old pros that would put me to shame. Doesn't bother me at all. I do alright though.

If a rugby league fan trolls on an aussie rules forum and does nothing but slag off AFL, then he/she will soon be banned. At the very least, his/her posts would be removed. That's as it should be. Free speech is a myth.

As for this thread, I have no issue with Legion's criticism of Laird Hamilton - that's a reasonable opinion. But to open up with "this ridiculous sport"... once again, I feel confident that a comment like that would be deleted on most moderated forums because it is clearly intended to incite unpleasant reaction and nothing else.

Does anyone actually enjoy having their favourite pass time demeaned in this way? Does it improve your experience of Seabreeze?

Depends entirely on the forum. Soft, moderated fora generally populated by older people or women or sensitive types everyone complains and the moderator bans people and everything's happy and shiny again. At harder, unmoderated fora the members self-regulate and drive out people they don't want. And it works pretty well, unless there's a serial troll who only posts NSFW type stuff. But you need dedicated members and it's not for kids. I wouldn't know what AFL fora are like, don't frequent any.

I'm with PT. I don't have to go on the web to get some disrespect from shortboard legends (or is that Legions?) you can find narrow minded people at almost every beach.

I have lived through longboards, short boards, goat boats, jet skis, boogers, longboards revisited and now sups. My take is - do what you like and enjoy the waves, particularly if you can do so without ruining someone elses recreation.

I am tempted to get on the kitesurfing forum and dish it out to those w^*%#rs, but lucky for them I have a life!!

look, why doesn't somebody over in wa lend a couple of medium level size and performance sups to the 2 lads for a month. they have a serious crack at and then come back and tell us what they think then. either way on the result, they would be more informed. maybe, just maybe they might like it or they can then really hang s### with some authority

As I've said before, what if I liked it?

I think doggie's had a go before.

I'd be too scared to have a go. Where could I do it? There's nowhere that I regularly surf that I'd have the nuts to paddle out at on a SUP.

This forum is more riveting than midday TV.

Everything's ridicules. It's when you can not see the ridicules in thing you become even more ridicules. The trick is to become so ridicules that you become enlightened and then you can't see the ridicules in things anymore as you don't really give two hoots. But then you have become ridicules again.

When I was in kindergarten someone laughed at me and said my pants where ridicules because I had a hole in them where my pooh-pooh hole is. I still to this day have to sew an extra bit of red fabric where my pooh-pooh hole is to stop looking ridicules

you need to talk to somebody because red fabric on blue pants will just highlight that particular area and you will look even more "ridicules" as you say.

I watched the video and then began reading some of the fakes responding to the post and lost interest about 6 posts down.

Laird is the real deal. You can hear his total frustration with what's happening in his banter. I can't understand what he's saying either - the one thing you can tell from him is that he's really pissed and frustrated with the whole thing - and that's real.

This gulf thing is huge - much bigger than a few mid life crisis insecure fakes pushing their own agenda and bad jokes on a forum.

Thanks for posting this DJ.

Oh crap just watched it again and actually listened to what he was saying..... He was just talking brands and business in all that mess. I always thought of him as an ocean lover. But it sounds like the reality is that he's a American Express Lover.

What a fricken mid life crisis, Soundgarden loving FAKE Laird turned out to be for me.

I'm sorry to all you real people, that I attempted to insult, on this form - I'm shattered

no wonder this thread went off the rails.

I think the input of Legion and Doggie is valuable to the forum. Adds a contrary view so it's not one big man hug in here-creates a bit of conflict-it's healthy and makes the place interesting. The haters need to toughen up a little and either ignore or join the fight and have some fun-shhhheeeesh, you'd think there was no surf.

Pretty contradictory post here when you refer to one big man hug and haters as one and the same.

For me, SUP is not about hating anyone, it's about spending time out on the water with good friends and family. Short boarders don't always consider their sport the same way and I feel that this is why SUP doesn't appeal to Legion. He'd be more than happy if no-one else surfed and he had the ocean to himself.

Agree! I like their stirring. Brightens the dullness that occurs at times.

Still think they are one person though. From now on they will be referred to by myself as 'Dogleg'.

Lots of words, mostly just blah and name calling as usual. But we can still have a fun surf. I'm in WA regularly for work. You say you'll surf with anyone. PM me with your mobile and we'll catch up for a paddle during next month. Midweek arvo will be fine. It's no effort on my part at all, I have boards there. If you actually have some moves to back up all that arrogance, I will be the first to support your right to denigrate and pass judgement on the many solid surfers on this forum who choose also to SUP. I am not a hater or grumpy or psycho, more like curious and amused. In any case, no need to fear - you're the martial arts expert...

I'm not going to waste time back & forthing with you if you don''t want to go for a surf, so just say yes. We might find that we have a lot in common. If you just come back with more internet heroism, taunts and condescension, it will not be responded to. Good waves here today, going for a surf now Legion. Wish you were here.
