Surely the idiot should be banned riding in a unsafe manner, not the vehicle.
An outsiders point of view of course. i don't know how bad it is up there so i could be mistaken, but im a surfer, Sup'er, Kiter, wakeboarder, and own a Jet Ski. If banning things is the way to go where will it stop a SUP is pretty frigken big and can do swimmers damage if the rider on it rides in in a unsafe manner in crowded areas, such as a kite, or even surfers around swimmers. Jet skis are extemes of these but they are imprtant and safe if the user is considerate and aware of sorroundings and they are a vital part of most beach's life saving facilities.
In short piss the idiots off not the vehicle.
In tassie there are strict rules around swimmers, but comonsense should
Let me paint a picture for you: New Years day a few years back. Myself and 200 of my closest mates are surfing the 1st 4 feet waves in a couple of months in clean conditions. Classic NYD stuff.
In the lineup is every craft imaginable including 3 jet ski's. Just in my bubble which I sit inside of on crowded days like this I am on a wave and a guy getting towed by a ski goes about 3 feet away from me past looking to get around the wave and onto the shoulder, wave over for me in the wash. Then I paddle back out and the ski and the towed dude pass either side of me rope going over my head with at least 6 inches spare.
This is a good experience on a nice day. Even more frustrating to the average guy is 6 feet waves, rip running flat out. 3 Ski teams run circuits of either step offs or just taking their mates back to the top of the line up as you paddle your arse off to just stay in position. 30 minutes of paddling, a set comes and some bloke that just jumped off takes the wave.
I wish it was just bogan wave jumpers with Jet Pilot head to toe that are bad news out there but more often than not when there's waves it's your own kind that ruin for you. I am not surprised this ban has occurred.
They can still have it when the surf is too big or sweep to strong to paddle, i'll be on top of the rock with a six pack watching. This just controls the idiots.
P.S Some of the negative comments on here about Jet Ski's are also very applicable to people I also see at the Alley on SUP. Dangerous, greedy and dumb.......
