After seeing a pic of some new JP pros for next year, i thought i'd have a look at their range.

Has anyone paddled the 7"4 X 31 wide body??

I kinda recall a vid of Keahi riding one at bells.

anyone got any info on it??

looks fun

7'4.....geez. That's getting kinda small JB Fletch......I'd nearly recommend skipping on suping and going straight to a standard shortboard minus the paddle. Saw some footage of someone suping on something simlar and it looked ugly as. May be fun but when i go below 8'0 it sought of defeats the purpose of going for a sup.

i've got one and yep its fun. different lines and turning arc's. its pretty stable to boot and you would have to be really trying to nose dive it and kick turns on a dime

however its a fun board for fun waves. nothing to serious. not because it wont surf it, but paddling speed is a bit too slow.

best for 2 to 3 ft beachies and point breaks.

take it out in 4 to 5 ft short period choppy shifty easterly swell like we've been getting lately and its not suited.

it is what it is- a fishy fun short sup

ps it's a 110 lts, i'm about 82 kgs- its pretty easy to use

s9' front and some shapers mxg3s for something- quad.

i put sunnies in the front one time- loose, wild and fast , but lacked a bit of hold for me. went back to the s9's but will try it again i reckon. the waves that day where falling over down the line

its all about the Litres.

i once paddled the Star Impossible and it was fine.
(6"6)

The 7"4 JP just looks like a fun mush burger board. which is when we all want to go supping.

thought i'd throw it out there.

BTW i have a secret weapon for big days and i have a range of surfboards to choose from.

Lets hope JP aus has a demo kicking around the place.

It's actually the same volume as the 8'6" JP - both 110 litres. I'm about 90 kegs (perhaps a little more - as I sit here scoffing a few homemade chocolate brownies) and I find both boards quite stable. I have the 8'6" but have also surfed the 7'4".

As it's not just about volume that determines stability, but plan shape etc etc, I'd say that the 7'4" is more stable than the longer board. It just doesn't have the same amount of glide, so as Lacy says, it will come down to types of waves you are surfing.

totally understand as i went from a 8"6 - 8"5 (following year model in different brand) and found them super different just because of the rail and tail shapes.

this 7"4 just looks like a fun board for everything from tiny fat waves - hollow 3 ft beaches.

whats its down the line speed like??

That board does look good....I had trouble with turning lines on the one i tried. Didnt have time to experiment with fins, so i just thought "Nah".... id like to try your fin set up.

Hi

I'm not quite sure if I should go for a 8,2 or a 7,4 JP wideboard.
I'm 74 kg. and most of the time I ride small slow waves.
I've been practicing SUP for some time so I'm not a beginner but not advanced either. But I'm used to surfing.
What would you advice?

Thank you for your help!

Im the same weight, looking for the same style for same conditions.
7"4 looks fun and will fit in the shed better.
