Agree Noel mate, but its not just this forum that's in trouble I think it's the sport in general. I personally think the sport itself is heading for an identity crisis. I might cop some flack here on saying this, but ive seen a big decline in guys that sup here on the south coast of NSW. But that's only the surfing part. The flat water sport seems to be going ahead but still the south coast guys dont want to take it up. A few crew have really soured the sport around here and the negative comments that are constantly put on this forum are the direct result of their attitudes out in the water.
Somewhere amongst this all and on this forum sup has lost it's fun.
Hey Appsy,
Its amazing how the comments made on Seabreeze pop up in converations all over the surf coast and are raised by many of the people who used to post but now just sit on the side and watch instead. The continued negativity raised on this forum has put many people off both the forum and the surfing side of the sport.
Whilst from time to time there are issues out in the water, if you were a first time SUPer reading this forum lately you would think the next time you paddle out your going to get pole axed.
I can only speak from my personal experience in 4-5 years I have really only had one run in that was someone blowing off a lot of hot air. We regularly surf Bells, Torquay, PRK etc etc etc. If you want a fight you can find it anywhere, if you fit in you will get along fine.
If instead of the continued negative Bull **** and trolling, the forum went back to posting stoked vids of people having fun, trying out new boards, assiting others with fin configurations etc we might just turn it around. I seriously doubt that will happen as the main contributors have moved on.
The racing side of the sport here has a solid following and its due to people dedicated to the sport putting in serious hours of time and effort to ensure progression and for that they should be congratulated.
The surfing side doesnt have that momentum behind it here in Vicco, thats why Kristi and I continue to travel interstate. At this point there isnt even a monthly or bi monthly comp. You cannot expect a sport to grow if there is nothing to build on.
At this point Kristi is learning to shortboard to be able to get some sort of comp experience as this is the only way to make it happen.
I would be keen to hear other peoples thoughts
